🌟 Exciting News! We're back with Executive Forum 2.0! 🌟

Join us on July 27 at Aiwan-e-Iqbal, Lahore, for an inspiring session where a diverse panel of experts from various fields will come together. We'll discuss how to steer our collective efforts toward a collaborative, policy-oriented approach for sustainable development.

As Sir David Attenborough wisely stated, "We are, at last, understanding the interconnection between the survival of the natural world and our own survival. We've domesticated 70% of the world's birds - the majority being chickens. The natural world once determined how we survive; now we determine how the natural world survives." This powerful reminder underscores the urgent need for action and collaboration in shaping a sustainable future.

Don't miss this opportunity to be part of a transformative dialogue aimed at making a real impact. Together, we can drive meaningful change. šŸŒāœØ

Zoom class for students and adults: The first question for SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) was, ā€œHow would you survive for one week without affordable Internet access?ā€ Many participants answered that they would read books at home or in the library. Some suggested going to a camp for one week or even a month during the summer without internet, TV, or smartphones.

The next topic was DESIGN and INNOVATION.
Ms. Sumaiya Shamshad from Tahafuzpak mentioned that design is key in combating climate change, offering innovative and sustainable solutions. Biomimicry, like wind turbines mirroring birds’ flight for clean energy, showcases nature-inspired innovation. Rain gardens and green roofs exemplify practical design, filtering rainwater and cooling cities naturally. These innovations demonstrate how design can drive environmental solutions effectively. In fact, in Japan, green curtains, such as sponge gourd curtains, are becoming common to mitigate sunlight.

The next speaker Dr. Ari Mazzeo encouraged us to envision solutions by drawing and imagining scenarios applicable to our own community. The focus was on designing cities for mutual benefits, encompassing individuals, families, communities, and the environment, including wildlife and cyclists. Suggestions from students included increasing green spaces and parks in urban areas. Dr. Ari highlighted the significance of incorporating plants indoors or within neighborhoods to benefit local communities.

Also, A 12-year-old entrepreneur named Ayzel proposed supporting Pakistan’s textile and apparel industry by hosting the International Fashion Design Week (IFTW) with the aim of fostering trade and economic growth. This initiative seeks to promote cultural exchange and commerce, providing an economic boost for the region. We were all inspired by Ayzel’s commitment to working towards sustainable fashion, and by Dr. Ari’s emphasis on focusing on natural materials for clothes and their processing

What is INNOVATION? On Saturday, April 20th, our students aged 8 to 18 from 6 countries will first learn related vocabulary. Then, together with business people and sustainability practitioners, they will form groups and create a scenario of innovation for the planet, sharing their outcomes and nature-based solutions.

We will invite 2 guest speakers: Dr. Ari Mazzeo, a Professor of Design Innovation and a Researcher in Digital Ethics at the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, will conduct an interactive session and explain two concepts: 1. What innovation is, and 2. What design innovation for sustainability or the benefit of people and the planet entails.

Ms. Sumaiya Shamshad, a Research Associate at Tahafuz Policy Research, brings a unique blend of scientific expertise and environmental zeal. Fueled by her experiences spearheading engaging environmental workshops with the Greenstep Foundation, Sumaiya applies her environmental science degree alongside her passion for positive change. Class with DIVERSITY: In our ā€œYou Leadā€ class, Ayzel Osman, a 12-year-old CEO from Pakistan leading ā€œBRAVE Kids,ā€ shared valuable tips on composting, cooking with scraps, and food preservation under the motto, ā€œTASTE NOT WASTE.ā€ She is a passionate environmentalist, known as a ā€œTrue Friend of the Earth.ā€ She taught us effective methods that anyone, whether children or adults, could try immediately, so we were inspired.
Mr. Gerald Lee, an Author and an International Speaker from Malaysia, explained to us why DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) is important in the workplace, what exactly DEI is, and how to foster DEI in the community and at the workplace. His vivid slides, experienced talks, and great passion allowed children to understand his points and the importance of DEI.

A two-hour Zoom class was just too short for our active learners. Today’s topic was SDG16, and class discussions and guest speakers’ speech excited students from Pakistan, Tanzania, and Japan. Mr. Pranav Sharma šŸ‡®šŸ‡³ initiated the discussion by asking what sustainability is and how the 17 Sustainable Development Goals are arranged in their current order. He encouraged our students, aged 8 to 18, to think about the mechanisms and reasons behind them. Then, he emphasized the importance of promoting peace and stability, ensuring access to justice for all, and building strong institutions.
The other speaker, Ms. Kaneez Fatima, explained that promoting peace involves recognizing how climate change directly impacts crop availability in third-world countries, leading to low yields and conflicts, while water scarcity further exacerbates these challenges. According to her, in creating an inclusive society, all members become stakeholders, requiring collective efforts to reduce plastic use and abstain from activities harmful to the environment, thereby fostering sustainable and equitable communities. I will continue to provide a space where students of various nationalities and ages can confidently exchange ideas together. Even if the topics are a little challenging for young learners, I value the opportunity for people living on the same planet to engage in discussions beyond age and nationality barriers.
Thank you for your continuous support, Dr Madaka Tumbo, Mr. Saad Saqib, Mr. Elvis Nshimba, and Ms. NGO NGOC MAI THY.

Team TahafuzPak’s recent visit to a construction site in Faisalabad revealed concerning practices contributing to climate change. The use of coal by construction workers for warmth not only poses immediate health risks but also releases harmful carbon dioxide, a major greenhouse gas, intensifying the carbon footprint of the construction process. This practice underscores the need for alternative, eco-friendly heating solutions.

Furthermore, the widespread presence of wood dust and the extensive use of timber in construction amplify environmental concerns. The extraction and processing of wood contribute to deforestation, disrupting ecosystems and reducing carbon sinks. Adopting sustainable construction materials and practices is imperative to mitigate the adverse impact on forests and, consequently, climate change.

Equally alarming was the lack of safety measures among construction workers. Beyond the immediate safety concerns, this negligence indirectly exacerbates environmental issues. Accidents often lead to resource wastage, energy-intensive rescue operations, and increased carbon emissions. Promoting stringent safety protocols not only safeguards workers but also aligns with broader environmental sustainability goals.

In conclusion, the observations at the construction site in Faisalabad highlight the urgent need for a comprehensive shift towards environmentally conscious practices within the construction sector. Prioritizing alternative heating sources, sustainable materials, and robust safety measures is not only a moral imperative but a crucial step in mitigating the construction industry’s contribution to climate change. Team TahafuzPak advocates for immediate reforms to foster a more sustainable and responsible approach within the sector.
