The IUB Climate Change Society proudly received Appreciation Certificates for its outstanding contributions during the 2023-24 term at the Annual Appreciation Ceremony of IUB Student Societies. The awards were presented by Prof. Dr. Abdul Rauf (Director of Student Affairs) and Dr. Muhammad Adnan Bukhari (Additional DSA) in acknowledgment of the society’s dedication to climate action and environmental advocacy.

🌍✨ Celebrating Success: IUB Climate Change Society Appreciation Ceremony 2024 ✨🌍

The IUB Climate Change Society proudly organized an Appreciation Ceremony to mark the end of an impactful term in 2024. The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Muhammad Abubakar, Joint Secretary-I, setting a reflective tone for the gathering.

President IUB-CCS, Mr. Muhammad Junaid Aslam, presented an inspiring overview of the society's highlights and achievements, showcasing the dedication and hard work of its members. Ms. Saira Qamar, Vice President-II, shared her transformative journey within the society, emphasizing the sense of purpose and growth it fostered. Meanwhile, Ms. Sameen Fatima, a general member, expressed how the society has deepened her understanding and passion for climate change advocacy.

Notable remarks were delivered by esteemed advisors:
🌟 Prof. Dr. Wajid Nasim Jatoi highlighted the critical role young leaders play in driving climate action and commended the society's relentless efforts.
🌟 Dr. M. Asif Nadeem, Advisor, IUB Debating Society, praised the society for its vision and urged students to sustain their momentum for impactful change.

An International Day of Climate Action was organized with aims to raise awareness about climate change and promote proactive solutions to combat its impact, by IUB Climate Change Society, in collaboration with the IUB Agrarian Society-Faculty of Agriculture & Environment (IUB), IUB Environmental Protection Society, and the International Centre for Climate Change, Food Security and Sustainability (ICCFS) The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB). The seminar brought together esteemed guests from both academia and environmental organizations. The Guest of Honours includes Prof. Dr. Tanvir Hussain Turabi, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment; Prof. Dr. Shazia Anjum, Patron-Consortium on Climate Change, Sustainability & Conservation (CCSF) & Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Biological Sciences; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Aown Sammar Raza, Chairman, Department of Agronomy; Mr. Gulraiz Khan, Project Coordinator for WWF-Pakistan; and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Adnan Bukhari, Additional Director of Student Affairs, Advisors, Co-advisors & faculty members from different department as well. Their presence highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in addressing climate change and fostering environmental sustainability. In their remarks, the speakers collectively emphasized the vital role of scientific research and sustainable agricultural practices in combating climate change. They called for enhanced collaboration among academia, industry, and grassroots organizations to foster innovative solutions. Furthermore, the need to engage and empower youth in climate action was stressed, highlighting that education and awareness are essential for driving positive environmental change. Their message served as a powerful call to action for all stakeholders to unite in addressing the climate crisis. Prof. Dr. Wajid Nasim Jatoi, Advisor-IUB Climate Change Society, thanked guest of honors, faculty, students, WWF-Pakistan, Office of Estate Care & all stakeholders for their collaboration, cooperation and support and emphasizee the critical importance of environmental stewardship and collaboration in addressing the challenges posed by climate change. Lastly, a plantation drive was conducted in conjunction with the seminar, symbolizing collective action toward a greener and more sustainable future. The event was bolstered by WWF-Pakistan’s generous donation of plants for the drive. Special thanks were extended to the WWF-Pakistan team and the Office of Estate Care, IUB whose support made the initiative a successfull.

An International Day of Climate Action is celebrated annually on October 24th. It is a global day to raise awareness about the need to address climate change and to take action to protect the planet. The day originated from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), an annual conference where almost 200 countries establish obligations to curb climate change. The event hosted by Faculty of Agriculture & Environment (FA&E) and organized by IUB Climate Change Society in collaboration with IUB Agrarian Society, IUB Environmental Protection Society and International Center for Climate Change, Food Security & Sustainability (ICCFS), IUB.
