Last week Youth Initiative Pakistan's team at Bahawalpur conducted an activity under project Rung to distribute female menstrual hygiene products to victims of the recent floods, who had taken refuge near the slums of Bahawalpur in South Punjab. Our volunteers also attempted to educate women and children about the importance of menstrual health in order to create awareness and destigmatize this sensitive in a very conservative segment of Pakistan's society.
YIP hopes to create a mechanism to regularly disseminate such essential items that are stigmatized amongst the flood victims to promote social welfare and make Pakistan's society more peaceful and inclusive, while also creating more equality.

Last week Youth Initiative Pakistan's project Rung conducted a demonstration near Model Town with the aim of promoting inclusivity in our society.
The volunteers proudly held self-made posters campaigning for 4 pressing issues that hinder the adoption of SDGs in Pakistan:
1. Highlighting UNDP's illegal termination of contract with Gender Interactive Alliance (GIA) & urging Pakistan's institutions to intervene and get it renewed. (SDG 5)
2. Demanding amendments in Pakistan's legal framework to protect the basic rights of women and the trans community. (SDGs 5, 10, 11, & 16)
3. Calling for stricter laws against forced conversions of minorities. (SDGs 5, 10, 16)
4. Highlighting the necessity of feminine hygiene products for flood victims in Pakistan. (SDG 5)

Following this demonstration Project Rung has initiated its main actions for this year that build upon this demonstration:
1. Legislative Change Campaign for Inclusivity.
2. Provision of Sanitary products to women during flood relief.
3. Facilitating employment of underprivileged women and gender minorities.

We hope to engage more members of our country's youth to achieve these goals and through our efforts bring about an impactful positive change in our society.

Youth Initiative Pakistan's Project Hamsari (educational equality) conducted a two month long activity to design educational workshops for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The volunteers worked virtually in small groups to research social, communication, and behavioral challenges caused by ASD; their effect on learning and behaviour of children with ASD; and strategies to counter these challenges.

They then brainstormed and developed activities that could be conducted for a group of around 30 children, which would help them learn science, communication, and art more effectively, while also improving their social skills.

The outcome of this activity is an Instruction Manual, which our vounteers in multiple cities will be using in the coming months to conduct multiple effective workshops to make learning more accessible, especially for those with ASD.

Human Rights are vital for sustainable development. In Pakistan the right to free speech, for example, is widely usurped from various marginalized communities. People belonging to minority groups are commonly disowned upon their birth, discriminated against, and not protected by the law, therefore the are disproportionately victims of gang r**e, violence, and torture.

Some minorities have no safe haven and face severe verbal or physical abuse regularly. Moreover, they are unable to raise their voice due to lack of support from the society.

Therefore, Youth Initiative Pakistan, thorough Project Rung, aims to address these issues by creating inclusivity in society and instilling tolerance towards people of all ethnicities, religions, genders, and identities.
The social, cultural, and educational framework of Pakistan has a strong role in reviving human rights. Therefore, our other projects will work in tandem with Project Rung to create educational reform and social change through increased awareness to curb issues pertaining to these areas, amongst others.
