In the early 1950s, the Zamboanguita Roman Catholic organization, Catholic Action, with Rev. Fermin Samanes, OAR, planned and agreed to establish a high school within the parochial lot. They planned to have a sectarian high school just to cater to the needs of the community and neighboring towns. Samanes informed the newly installed first bishop of the Diocese of Dumaguete, Most Rev. Surban, DD, about the plan of putting a high school, and the bishop had a very positive response. The bishop visited the site and he immediately ordered the construction of the school building. The school was founded on ๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐, as the ๐๐ข๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐ข๐จ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ง ๐๐๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ฅ established in the Diocese with the seal, Ad Astra Per Aspera, which they interpreted into "Work and you will prosper" coined from its original translation of "To the stars through difficulties or hardwork." The school's patron saint is ๐๐ฎ๐ซ ๐๐๐๐ฒ ๐จ๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ ๐๐๐ซ๐ฆ๐๐ฅ. The feast day falls every 16th of July and the Founder's Day is celebrated on the same date. The administration was headed by the late bishop Most Rev. Surban, DD, School Director Msgr. Avenido, and Principal Mrs. The first faculty members were Ms. Julieta E. Teves, Ms. Jesusa E. Luz B. Adanza, Ms. Policronia Tragico, Mr. Sergio T. Somido, and Mr. Jose Davao. The formal opening of the school started in June 1957 with complete first to fourth-year high school levels with only one section every year level. Students from the former South Negros Institute were absorbed and there were only 25 first graduates in March 1959. From the late 1980s to February 2000, the school was managed by the Carmelite Sisters of Our Lady, with Sr. Flor Pauline Duran, Carm. O.L. as the school director and Rev. Nathaniel Gomez as school superintendent. Due to the expansion of their Apostolate, the school was turned over to the Diocese on February 25, 2000, under the supervision of Rev. Thadeu Enrique N. Balongag, Ph.D., the Diocesan Catholic Schools superintendent, and Mr. Glenson E. Alanano, the school principal. In June 2010, Rev. Msgr. Marino P. Ybo was the Diocesan Catholic Schools superintendent and Ms. Genrenita B. Bantaya, MESL has been the school principal up to the present. With the present bishop Most Rev. Julito B. Cortes, DD and Diocesan Catholic Schools Superintendent Rev. Balongag, Ph.D., DCA now offers Nursery 1 and 2, Kindergarten in the Pre-school, Grades 1 to 6, and complete Junior High School and Senior High School. Pre-school recognition was granted last July 10, 2017, and Elementary recognition on June 10, 2017.
