Bolong, Zamboanga City. In celebration of Earth Month, Tzu Chi volunteers, youth members, and staff conducted a coastal clean-up and mangrove planting activity on April 9 under the initiative titled โClean Coast, Green Future: Coastal Cleaning and Mangrove Planting Drive.โ
The activity brought together 12 volunteers, 20 Tzu Chi Youth Volunteers, and 5 Tzu Chi Schiolars, all working toward a shared goal of environmental protection and coastal restoration. Mangrove seedlings, were planted along the coastal area as part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate marine ecosystems and strengthen natural barriers against coastal erosion.
Upon arrival, participants observed that the area was heavily affected by scattered waste. This prompted them to expand their initiative beyond its original plan. In response, a clean-up drive was immediately conducted alongside the mangrove planting.
Volunteers and youth members worked collaboratively to collect and properly dispose of waste materials, helping restore the cleanliness of the coastal environment while promoting awareness of responsible waste management within the community.
Through this initiative, Tzu Chi reaffirmed its commitment not only to humanitarian service but also to environmental preservation. The activity highlighted the importance of collective action, demonstrating how small efforts, when united, can lead to meaningful and lasting change.
As the organization continues its mission, it emphasizes that caring for the environment is essential in safeguarding the future of the next generations. Initiatives like this serve as a reminder that everyone has a role to play in protecting and nurturing the natural world.
