A Statement of Condemnation Against the Incident
at Ateneo de Zamboanga University

The administration, faculty, staff, students, and stakeholders of Madrasatu Ahil-Bayt (AS), Inc. strongly condemn all forms of violence, hatred, extremism, and actions that threaten peace, unity, and respect for human dignity.

The recent shooting incident in one of the schools/universities in Zamboanga City is a "wake-up call" to all concerned constituents of our society in matters of morality and unity in building and sustaining a family institution vis a-vis the existing cultural diversity, regardless of religious affinity that our city has been experiencing since time immemorial.

We call on the proper authorities to a speedy investigation in order to thresh out the necessary information involving the incident, as we respect the capacity of the said institution in its collaboration and eventually provide solutions in quelling such a scenario.

As an educational institution dedicated to Islamic values, knowledge, and moral excellence, we uphold the principles of peace, justice, compassion, and mutual respect. We reject any act that promotes fear, division, or harm to individuals or communities.

We call upon everyone to work together in fostering understanding, harmony, and respect regardless of religion, ethnicity, or background. Let us remain committed to building a peaceful and compassionate society through education, dialogue, and cooperation.

Love for Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his purified Ahlul Bayt is not merely an emotional attachment, but a path toward faith, guidance, and nearness to Allah. The Qur’an says:

﴿قُل لَّا أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ أَجْرًا إِلَّا ٱلْمَوَدَّةَ فِي ٱلْقُرْبَىٰ﴾
“Say: I ask of you no reward for it except love for my near relatives.” (42:23)

According to the teachings of the Ahlul Bayt, loving them means following their example in worship, justice, patience, mercy, and truth. Imam Jaʿfar al-Ṣādiq (as) taught that faith is perfected through love and loyalty to the family of the Prophet ﷺ, because they are the guides who preserve the true teachings of Islam. Imam ʿAli (as) also reminded believers that attachment to the Ahlul Bayt purifies the heart and protects one from misguidance.

The significance of this love is that it transforms a believer’s character and direction in life. Through loving the Prophet ﷺ and his family, a person learns compassion, humility, sacrifice, and sincerity toward Allah. It unites the heart with divine guidance and gives spiritual strength during trials. In the view of the Ahlul Bayt, this love is a means of salvation, spiritual purification, and closeness to Allah, because true love naturally leads one to obedience, righteous action, and remembrance of the Creator.

This verse reminds mankind that every blessing, mercy, and perfection comes from Allah alone.

Imam ʿAli (as) taught that true praise is recognizing Allah as the source of all goodness, while Imam Jaʿfar al-Ṣadiq (as) explained that “Rabb al-ʿĀlamīn” means Allah is the nurturer, sustainer, and guide of all creation — not only humans, but every world seen and unseen.

This verse teaches humility, gratitude, and reliance upon Allah, reminding humanity that no matter one’s status or power, all are dependent upon the care and mercy of their Lord. It also inspires believers to live with thankfulness and responsibility, recognizing that the One who nurtures creation also calls mankind toward justice, compassion, and worship.

Jumuʿah prayer is an embodiment of the weekly renewal of faith, discipline, and connection to Allah. Rooted in the practice of Prophet Muhammad, it gathers believers to listen to guidance, remembrance of Allah, and strengthen their Akhlaq (character). It is a moment where worship goes beyond the individual and becomes a shared act of devotion 🤲

Reflecting on it, Jumuʿah reminds a Muslim that Islam is not lived in isolation. Standing shoulder to shoulder in the masjid nurtures humility, unity, and accountability. A powerful line from Du'a Kumayl:

اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِيَ الذُّنُوبَ الَّتِي تَهْتِكُ الْعِصَمَ 🤲
“O Allah, forgive me the sins that tear away the protections (of faith).”

This line reflects a deep awareness that sins do not only bring punishment, but also strip a person of spiritual protection and closeness to Allah. Seeking nearness to Allah through this supplicatiom. Its benefit lies in strengthening faith, cultivating humility, bringing comfort in hardship, deepening love for the Ahlul Bayt (as), and renewing hope in Allah’s mercy. Repeating it with sincerity reminds the believer that all needs return to Allah, while the righteous are a means of drawing closer to Him ❤️
