WORLD SU***DE PREVENTION DAY | September 10

Today, we remind everyone that every life matters, every voice deserves to be heard, and no one should have to face their struggles alone. World Su***de Prevention Day is a call to create spaces where people can speak openly, seek support without judgment, and feel that they belong. Sometimes, a simple “How are you?”, a listening ear, or a reminder that someone cares can make a meaningful difference.

As WMSU Gender Advocates Inc., we stand for a community that values compassion, inclusivity, respect, and hope—regardless of gender, identity, or circumstance. Let us continue creating a culture where asking for help is met with understanding, where differences are respected, and where everyone is reminded: You are valid. You are important. On September 01, 2026, students, faculty, and gender advocates came together for the annual SOGIE Summit, an avenue dedicated to strengthening awareness, promoting dignity and equality, and creating safer and more inclusive spaces within the university community.

The program opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Elmer M. Labad, Assistant Director of the Gender Research and Resource Center (GRRC), followed by a review of the summit’s objectives and rationale by Loraine A. Concepcion, UGA President. The gathering then proceeded to a series of plenary discussions designed to deepen participants’ understanding of gender, identity, equality, and inclusion.

Leading the discussions was Asst. Prof. Nelibelle C. Ulama, who presented “SOGIE: Understanding Equality, Dignity, and Non-Discrimination.” Her session provided participants with important perspectives on SOGIE and the principles necessary in fostering an environment grounded in respect and equal treatment.

The conversation continued with Dr. Mariam Z. Julkarnain, GRRC Director, discussed Intersex, offering participants an opportunity to better understand intersex identities and the importance of recognizing diverse experiences within conversations on gender and inclusion.

Adding another meaningful perspective to the summit, Asst. Prof. Ruby M. Lim, who tackled Safe Spaces I, followed by Mr. Crisjame C. Toribio, who led Safe Spaces II. Both sessions emphasized the importance of establishing environments where individuals can feel respected, protected, and free from discrimination.

The summit also featured the introduction of its speakers and facilitators, with Gabriel Relativo serving as the UGA Secretary for Communication, and Nashyefa Kayting as Board memeber, and Glyde Enriquez introducing the third and fourth speaker. Their contributions helped keep the program organized and engaging throughout the morning session.

Beyond the plenary discussions, the event continued with the WMSU-GAI Officers and Local Clubs Oath-Taking Ceremony, led by Asso. Prof. Evelyn N. Angeles and Dr. Fredelino San Juan. The ceremony marked a new chapter of service for the newly inducted officers and reinforced their commitment to advancing gender advocacy within their respective colleges and organizations.

Leading the organization is President Loraine Concepcion (CSM), alongside Vice President Bryven Klee M. Panollera (CPADS) and Secretary General Eric John Batocael (CLA). Supporting the organization’s financial and external affairs are Secretary for Finance Glyde Ann C. Enriquez (CN) and Secretary for External Linkages Marielle C. Arañez (COE), while Secretary for Communication Gabriel Louis M. Relativo (CSSPE) and Secretary for Grievances Kishanrah Torion (CCJE) take on vital roles in strengthening communication and addressing the concerns of the organization and its members.

The UGA Board of Members is composed of student representatives from various colleges, bringing together diverse voices and perspectives: Rea May L. Ponce (CAIS), Mariethony Engalla (CARCHI), Maria Quisha P. Leong (CCS), Adrian Dave Damian (CFES), Ysnar Waciff Inrin (CHE), Nashyefa A. Kayting (CSM), Allen Dave P. Bello (CSWCD), Chealsineth Lucaberte (CTE), and Fatima Jubaira S. Mendrez (ILS).

The afternoon session brought together officers and participants through team-building exercises, creating an opportunity to strengthen communication, cooperation, and camaraderie among the local gender clubs. The day concluded with an awarding ceremony, Closing Remark by Bryven Klee Panollera the UGA Vice President, community dance, and evaluation and photo opportunity, ending the summit on a celebratory note.

With the collective efforts of the GRRC, WMSU Gender Association Inc., local gender clubs, facilitators, coordinators, and student leaders, the SOGIE Summit 2026 became more than a gathering—it became a space for learning, dialogue, connection, and renewed commitment to building a university where every voice matters. 💜
