Zamboanga City has recorded 1,241 dengue cases and 12 deaths, with 39 of its 98 barangays reporting recent clustering of cases, prompting city officials to intensify measures against the mosquito-borne disease.

The figures, presented by the City Health Office, came after the city was declared under the dengue epidemic threshold.

Mayor Khymer Olaso on Wednesday convened barangay officials and directed communities, particularly those with the highest number of dengue cases, including coastal barangays, to step up sanitation drives, environmental cleanups, and other preventive measures to help contain the spread of dengue.

The Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority and Freeport (ZAMBOECOZONE) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 21 July 2026, with Zamboanga JKS Coconut Products Manufacturing, reinforcing the Freeport’s growing agro-industrial sector and solidifying a key local business partnership. The signing took place at the Mini-Conference Room, 3rd Floor, Administration Building in Sitio San Ramon, Talisayan, Zamboanga City.

Under the newly executed agreement, Zamboanga JKS Coconut Products Manufacturing – owned and operated by sole proprietor Ms. Joy Oporto Kang – will lease several warehousing facilities to operate and scale up its processing facility within the economic zone. The registered enterprise specializes in processing and manufacturing of high-value coconut products, including coconut charcoal and various coconut by-products, contributing significantly to the region's agricultural value chain.
