Renewable Energy Convenors Planning Meeting | August 14, 2026

Renewable Energy (RE) convenors met on August 14, 2026, to align campaign priorities, clarify roles and timelines, and coordinate actions for renewable energy and climate advocacy in Zamboanga City.

Key priorities include finalizing the CLIMA MOU, submitting a position paper on the proposed Climate Emergency Declaration, organizing a stakeholders’ forum and radio interview, conducting renewable energy IEC activities, gathering local,climate data, mobilizing signatures, conducting renewable energy site visits, and continuing mangrove and native tree-growing activities.

These coordinated actions will build toward the Renewable Energy Conference in November 2026, bringing together government, civil society, academe, the private sector, youth, communities,Faith based and energy stakeholders to strengthen partnerships and advance renewable energy development and a just energy transition.

Together, we move forward for renewable energy, climate resilience, and a sustainable Zamboanga City.

✍ Climate Leaders Inspiring Meaningful Actions (CLIMA), a broad coalition based in Zamboanga City, held a symbolic signing of a climate emergency declaration, highlighting the need for the city local government unit (LGU) to take climate action.

Through a joint resolution, CLIMA urges the Zamboanga City LGU to implement immediate systemic changes. We cannot stress enough the need to immediately address the climate-driven issues our area faces. The city has historically been beset by natural disasters, which are exacerbated by human-induced climate change. We need to address these, as well as ensure that the energy needs of the city come from clean, affordable, and renewable sources,” said Sister Marilou Montalban of Social Action Center-Zamboanga City.

Sa harap ng lumalalang epekto ng climate crisis, nagkaisa ang iba't ibang sektor sa Lungsod ng Zamboanga upang ipahayag ang kanilang pagkilala sa kagyat na banta ng pagbabago ng klima at ang pangangailangang kumilos ngayon para sa kapakanan ng kasalukuyan at susunod na mga henerasyon.

Sa pangunguna ng PMCJ, pormal na inilunsad ng Multisectoral Group of Zamboanga City – C.L.I.M.A. (Climate Leaders Inspiring Meaningful Actions) ang kanilang Climate Emergency Declaration, bilang panawagan para sa agarang, makatarungan, at sustenableng pagtugon sa krisis sa klima.

Ang deklarasyon ay isinagawa noong Hunyo 5, 2026 sa Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City, bilang bahagi ng PMCJ Preparatory Meeting for the Renewable Energy Conference & Climate Emergency, kung saan isinagawa rin ang Symbolic Signing of the Climate Emergency Declaration bilang pagpapakita ng kolektibong suporta at pangako ng iba't ibang sektor.

Nilagdaan at sinuportahan ito ng mga kinatawan mula sa mga komunidad, faith-based organizations, academe, civil society organizations, at non-government organizations (NGOs), na nagkaisang isulong ang mga konkretong hakbang para sa climate action, renewable energy, at environmental justice.

Bilang pagpapalakas ng adbokasiyang ito, nagsagawa rin ng pagpupulong kasama sina Hon. Litlit Macrohon, Hon. Atty. Jian Enriquez, at Hon. Atty. Jihan Edding ng Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Zamboanga. Sa nasabing pagpupulong, muling pinagtibay ng mga konsehal ang kanilang suporta sa pagsusulong ng deklarasyon ng Climate Emergency at sa pagpapatibay ng mga polisiya at programang nagtataguyod ng malinis, luntian, at renewable na enerhiya sa lungsod.

Ang Climate Emergency Declaration ay hindi lamang isang pahayag ng pagkabahala, kundi isang panawagan para sa sama-samang pagkilos, mas matatag na mga polisiya, at mas mabilis na transisyon tungo sa malinis at napapanatiling enerhiya.
