LEANLO | STATEMENT OF SOLIDARITY ON THE REFRAMED CHED GENERAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM

The Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, commonly known as the Kโ€“12 Program, was signed into law today, 13 years ago.

As conversations on the reframed CHED General Education curriculum continue, we stand firm in asserting that History, Filipino, Literature, Philosophy, Language, and the Humanities are not expendable disciplines because education must remain more than mere preparation for labor and market demands.

This collective statement is initiated by La Liga Historia Zamboangueรฑa - AdZU Chapter (LLHZ-AdZU), concurred by The Ateneo Communicators, Ateneo Psych ICare, Education Academic Organization, International Studies Organization of Ateneo, Liberal Arts Academic Organization, and Samahang Pilosopiya ng Ateneo.

The Bachelor of Arts in Communications (BA Comm) reignites the love of filmmaking with the revival of the Ateneo Communicators Film Festival or ACFF. The event was held on May 7, 2026, 1 to 5 PM, at the Gallery of the Peninsula and the Archipelago.

Short films created by the BA Comm students under the Multimedia Storytelling class led by Ms Bianca Ellice Luistro were put on center stage highlighting our young filmmakersโ€™ passion and creativity leading them to becoming fully fledged story tellers in the future.

The movies featured are:

โ€œDito sa Kusinaโ€ by Panlantaw Productions, Directed by Phajad Hadjirul
โ€œSi Desvia Kitaโ€ by Silakbo Productions, Directed by Marie France Fernandez
โ€œTa Ama Yo Contigoโ€ by Filminism Productions, Directed by Leo Leireen Magpantay

Movies created by BA Comm alumni were also featured. These are:

โ€œEntre Medio del Finโ€, Directed by Ryanne Murcia
โ€œSari-Sariโ€, Directed by Yza Jimenez
โ€œCity of Flowersโ€, Directed by Xeph Suarez

To inspire this new generation of creators, special jurors were invited to evaluate and provide constructive criticism to their productions. These guests are veterans of the art of filmmaking and are also proud products of the AdZU BA Comm. They are: Ryanne Murcia (a multi-awarded Manila based Mindanaoan filmmaker), Dexter Dela Peรฑa, LPS (Director of Photography for ABS-CBN), Xeph Suarez (President of the Guild of Assistant Directors and Script Supervisors of the Philippines), Bianca Ellice Luistro (Founder of Kamina PH), and Monalisa Ninia Knuttel (Tourism Operations Officer for the Department of Tourism).

A number of special recognitions were awarded to the featured productions with โ€œTa Ama Yo Contigoโ€ emerging as the Best Film.

This event continues the tradition set by the past ACFF installments, the last of which was done in 2017. With its revival, may the students be inspired to create more films and tell more stories that resonate with todayโ€™s social issues and the realities of life both mundane and profound.

Let these stories bloom and bring color to life!

Meet the Jury of FLOREAO: Na Medio del Tiempo ๐ŸŒบโณ
These arenโ€™t just namesโ€” theyโ€™re storytellers who started where we are,
and now theyโ€™re shaping the future of film.
From local beginnings to international stages, they now return to where it all startedโ€” to guide, evaluate, and celebrate a new generation of storytellers at the Ateneo Communicators Film Festival.
Their stories have bloomed.
Now, they help others begin.

Before we bloomโ€ฆ others have already taken root. ๐ŸŒฑ

As part of FLOREAO: Na Medio del Tiempo, the revival of the Ateneo Communicators Film Festival (ACFF) also honors the stories that came before usโ€”films created by our seniors and alumni who once stood where we stand now. These works remind us that every storyteller begins somewhereโ€ฆ and grows beyond it.

From then to now, from roots to bloomโ€” these stories are part of the garden we continue to grow.

FLOREAO: Na Medio del Tiempo (Blooming: In the Middle of Time), we witness stories not yet in full bloom but already rooted in courage, change, and becoming.

From love that struggles to be spoken, to paths that dare to be different, to grief that learns to carry on; each film captures what it means to begin again.

This is the revival of the Ateneo Communicators Film Festival (ACFF)โ€”where student filmmakers take their first steps, and stories start to grow.

FLOREAO: Na Medio del Tiempo ๐ŸŒบโณ
(Blooming: In the Middle of Time)

Not every story begins at the start, some unfold right in the middle.

The Ateneo Communicators Film Festival returns,
marking the rise of a new generation of storytellers. Where ideas take root and begin to bloom on screen.

From a love that finds its voice beyond language, to a life that dares to choose a different path, to a family that continues despite loss; these are stories of connection, change, and resilience.

Raw. Unfinished. Intentional.
Because every great filmmaker begins somewhere.
One screen. Three beginnings. One shared bloom.

Voltea el Reloj. Aqui ta Empieza Otra Vez.

In line with the Multicultural Communications Month, this video explores how media representation shapes our understanding of cultural identitiesโ€”often through repetition, simplification, and unequal visibility. By reexamining familiar portrayals, we highlight the need for narratives that reflect diversity with greater depth, context, and authenticity.

If the media has the power to define how cultures are seen, whose stories are truly being toldโ€”and whose are being reduced to stereotypes?
