Last February 6, 2026, our GIS Training Seminar featured an exciting and skill-filled Map-Making Contest where participants transformed data into meaningful visual stories. Each map reflected not just technical knowledge, but creativity, precision, and a deep understanding of how mapping supports community development.

𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 (𝗚𝗜𝗦) 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Last 𝕱𝖊𝖇𝖗𝖚𝖆𝖗𝖞 6, 2026, the 𝙲𝚘𝚕𝚕𝚎𝚐𝚎 𝚘𝚏 𝙴𝚗𝚐𝚒𝚗𝚎𝚎𝚛𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝙰𝚅𝚁 was filled with ideas, insights, and innovation during the successful conduct of the 𝙶𝙸𝚂 𝚃𝚛𝚊𝚒𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚂𝚎𝚖𝚒𝚗𝚊𝚛: “𝑭𝒓𝒐𝒎 𝑳𝒐𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑫𝒂𝒕𝒂 𝒕𝒐 𝑮𝒍𝒐𝒃𝒂𝒍 𝑰𝒎𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒕: 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 𝑴𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕”. It was a day packed with meaningful learning, engaging discussions, and hands-on experiences that deepened our appreciation for Geographic Information Systems and its role in shaping communities.

Through expert sharing and collaborative activities, we explored how GIS supports mapping, spatial analysis, disaster preparedness, urban planning, and sustainable development. Beyond technical skills, the seminar also strengthened our sense of teamwork, curiosity, and responsibility as future geodetic engineers and youth mappers.

For the first time ever, we are launching the Map-Making Contest as part of our upcoming GIS Seminar! This is your chance to turn local data into meaningful change and show how youth mapping can make an impact in your community—and beyond.

Whether your focus is on disaster risk reduction, environmental conservation, land use planning, public safety, or climate change adaptation, your map can tell a story that matters. Use your GIS skills to analyze, visualize, and communicate local data, and demonstrate how it contributes to broader social, environmental, or policy solutions.

The 𝐖𝐌𝐒𝐔 𝐆𝐄𝐒𝐀 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬 proudly marks a historic milestone as the organization receives official accreditation from the WMSU Office of Student Affairs (OSA) during the ’26 Ceremonial Awarding of Accreditation Certificates held on January 29, 2026 at the WMSU College of Engineering Audio-Visual Room.

This recognition signifies a major step in our journey from being under the umbrella of the GESA Organization to now standing as an established and fully independent student organization within Western Mindanao State University. This achievement strengthens our commitment to youth leadership, geospatial education, community mapping, and meaningful service beyond the campus.

We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated Adviser, Engr. Jillian Glaze Sapalleda, for her continuous guidance, mentorship, and unwavering support in shaping the direction and growth of the organization. We also commend our YouthMappers President, Melbert Jr. Dominado, for his leadership, commitment, and determination in steering the organization toward this remarkable achievement.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Engr. Evelyn N. Angeles, OSA Director, whose unwavering support, mentorship, and belief in student organizations played a crucial role in making this accreditation possible. We also acknowledge Dr. Fredelino M.
