Representatives of the Executive Board of The Union met with representatives of the ZSCMST–NSTP on October 10, 2026, at Iya Cafe Resto to discuss a proposed partnership aimed at strengthening collaboration in the implementation of community-based projects and programs. The proposed initiatives will focus on promoting good governance, advancing educational opportunities, and fostering active citizenship among the youth and the wider community.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both organizations to exchange ideas, explore areas of mutual interest, and discuss potential avenues for collaboration in advancing their shared commitment to community development and nation-building. Through this initial engagement, both parties were able to lay the groundwork for a prospective partnership that seeks to maximize their respective capacities and resources in delivering meaningful and sustainable initiatives.

Although the formal convention and the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) have yet to be scheduled, the meeting marked an important initial step toward establishing a collaborative relationship between the two organizations. It opened opportunities for further discussions and coordination, with the hope of translating their shared objectives into concrete programs and projects that will contribute to youth empowerment, responsible citizenship, and inclusive community development.

It is a word commonly seen and attributed to services from organizations, businesses, government services and other providers who wish to convey absolute quality in their work and service. It is also commonly attributed to individuals who display a certain quality in their performance and work behavior.

But what defines the quality in professionalism?

Simply put, professionals have standards.

To define the quality service given as “professional” requires a set of standards to compare the quality to. While the standards may vary, 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐮𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬.

Reliability, punctuality, decisiveness, adaptability, accountability, and so on are all basic standards that a leader constantly measures their performance against so as to correct faults and improve themselves.

Professionalism takes these basic standards to a greater degree through international or national standards, credentials and academic attainment, licenses and field of experience.

The commonly seen ISOs are determined by the International Organization for Standards whose mission is to ensure, as they put it:

“that the products and services you use daily are safe, reliable, and of high quality. They also guide businesses in adopting sustainable and ethical practices.”

All of these attributes define excellent and professional services. It is especially important that these qualities are regularly displayed and practiced openly so that people know and see the quality of what is being offered.

𝐓𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Every accomplishment is celebrated and every failure calls for answers.

Being accountable for your actions, responsibilities, and subordinates serves to reinforce your leadership as worthy of trust and in line with morality, ethics, and a standard of quality.

Accountability is not only about admitting and correcting personal faults, it is also the careful process of ensuring that your responsibilities meet a certain standard and fulfillment of duty.

Inconsistent quality of work, lax protocols, mistakes of subordinates, and other operational shortcomings that may not be directly caused by the leader must still be held accountable by and to the leader.

Firstly, as it is their area of responsibility, it is only right to be the one to straighten the matter, and secondly, the leader themselves must answer indirectly allowing operational failures.

It is the leader's duty to face and answer the difficult questions raised by accountability.

When it is compromised, so is operational and personal integrity. A hierarchy that cannot answer for themselves, cannot fulfill the needs of their dependents—members, constituents, and so on.

Upholding the standard is to uphold leadership, and accountability upholds all.

The Membership Committee of The Union conducted its two-day screening interview for aspiring Nation-builders on September 5–6, 2026, via Google Meet.

More than 20 applicants advanced to the final phase of The Union’s membership process. The screening was facilitated by a four-member Screening Panel, with the Membership Officer serving as the Chairperson of the Panel.

The screening interview serves as one of the most vital stages in the membership process, providing the Screening Panel with an opportunity to assess the applicants’ commitment, values, and understanding of active citizenship. More importantly, it enables the Committee to determine which aspiring Nation-builders genuinely advocate for and embody the principles of good governance, responsible citizenship, and meaningful youth participation.

Through this process, The Union seeks to ensure that those who become part of the organization are not only willing to serve but are also committed to upholding its principles and contributing meaningfully to its mission of nation-building.

𝗔 𝗺𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗹, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗺, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

The Supreme Student Council Society of the Philippines – Zamboanga City Chapter, together with the Union of Nation-builders and Innovators for Democracy Organization, and other youth artists and volunteers, successfully conducted the 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 for West Philippine Sea Atin ‘To! campaign and Bangon Bayan, Panahon Na! program.

This Solidarity Mural Painting marks a collective call to awaken civic consciousness and encourage Filipinos, especially the youth, to stand for what is right. Through this, the message is brought to life: our seas, our rights, our sovereignty, and our future are worth standing for.

𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

At the heart of the mural is the West Philippine Sea, symbolizing our national identity, territorial rights, and responsibility to protect what belongs to our country. Each stroke of the artwork reflects the courage, unity, and patriotism of Filipinos who continue to raise their voices for our nation.

On September 4, 2026, the Membership Committee of The Union, led by the Membership Officer, Nb. Gelvie Gonzales, conducted a virtual orientation for aspiring nation-builders via Google Meet.

The orientation served as a fundamental component of The Union's screening process, intended to ensure that all applicants have a clear understanding of the commitments they are undertaking, as well as the responsibilities, duties, expectations, and principles that come with becoming part of The Union.

Moreover, the orientation provided applicants with an opportunity to make an informed decision on whether they wish to proceed with the succeeding stages of the screening process. At the same time, it enabled The Union to assess the applicants’ level of commitment, understanding, and willingness to uphold The Union's principles from the outset.
