Balik Kaanyag facilitated a Training of Trainers on Safe & Unsafe Touch and Online Safety for SK chairpersons, child representatives, LYDC members, BCPC members, MSWDO Villanueva staff, police officer from Villanueva MPS, DepEd teachers, and other community leaders in Villanueva on May 29, 2026.

This training was more than just a simple learning session it was a purpose-driven initiative designed to equip dedicated trainers in Villanueva with enhanced knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to educate, guide, and protect everyone, especially our children and young people, from all forms of harm, abuse, and exploitation, both in person and in the digital space.

We strongly believe that safety is a basic right of every person, and awareness is the first and most important step toward building a safe, kind, and secure community for all. By training and empowering our trainers, we do not just share knowledge, we also multiply impact because these trained and equipped leaders have committed to train other children and youth in their communities on Safe & Unsafe Touch and Online Safety.

Let us continue to stand together, learn together, and protect one another. No one is too young or too old to learn how to stay safe, and no form of harm whether physical or online is ever too small to be ignored. Together, we build a safe space where everyone can grow, learn, and thrive without fear.

Representing Balik Kaanyag were 𝗝𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗲 𝗕. 𝗣𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮, 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵, and 𝗥𝗵𝗲𝗮 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮 𝗧. Over three days, delegates engaged in discussions and learning sessions focused on key child protection issues, including:

The summit highlighted the importance of 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮-𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝘆, 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝘀 in protecting children from violence and exploitation.

We are also proud to share that Ma’am Rhea and her Asia-Pacific team were selected as one of the winning teams in the Corporal Punishment Hackathon Track, where delegates developed practical, youth-led solutions to help end violence against children. Their team’s winning initiative will receive seed funding to support implementation in the coming months, and Balik Kaanyag looks forward to being actively involved in advancing this important work.

For Balik Kaanyag, this experience reaffirmed our commitment to supporting the healing, recovery, and empowerment of child survivors of abuse and vulnerable children in communities and strengthening safer, nurturing environments for children, families, and communities.

More importantly, the summit reminded us that meaningful child protection happens when children and young people are not only consulted, but recognized as leaders, changemakers, and partners in shaping safer futures.

Balik Kaanyag, in partnership with the Quezon Ministerial Association, successfully conducted a Child Protection and Family Empowerment Conference and Workshop for churches. We are deeply grateful for this meaningful collaboration, led by Pastor Marjun Baguio of Jesus For All Nations as the chairperson.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our speakers for generously sharing their expertise and insights. Special thanks to Mrs. Janine Mae E. Guibone-Taray, Social Welfare Officer III from the Regional Alternative Child Care Office X under the National Authority for Child Care, for her discussion on foster parenting. We also thank Rev. Dan Balayo of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries for sharing the theology of safeguarding; Atty. Maria Laarni Sheila S. Guico-Mally, Sheila Guico-Mally TBRI Practitioner and Executive Director of Balik Kaanyag for guiding us in developing child safeguarding policy; and Ms. Christine Jane A. Otic, Supervising Clinician of Balik Kaanyag for teaching us the Trauma-Inform Care in caring for children.
