SOGIE is an acronym that stands for Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression.
Here's a breakdown of each component:

* Sexual Orientation: This refers to a person's emotional, romantic, and/or s*xual attraction to others. Examples include le***an, gay, bis*xual, pans*xual, as*xual, and heteros*xual/straight.

* Gender Identity: This is a person's internal, deeply held sense of their own gender. It's about how someone perceives themselves, regardless of the s*x they were assigned at birth. Gender identity can be male, female, both, neither, or somewhere else along the gender spectrum (e.g., non-binary, genderq***r).

* Gender Expression: This is how a person outwardly presents their gender, which can be through their behavior, clothing, haircut, voice, and other characteristics. It may or may not conform to socially defined behaviors and characteristics typically associated with being masculine or feminine.

Why is SOGIE important?

* Universality: Everyone has a SOGIE. It's a way to understand fundamental aspects of human identity, not just for LGBTQ+ individuals.

* Inclusivity: While related to the LGBTQ+ (Le***an, Gay, Bis*xual, Transgender, Q***r/Questioning, etc.) community, SOGIE provides a broader framework that acknowledges the diversity of human experiences in terms of attraction and gender.

* Human Rights: Understanding and respecting SOGIE is crucial for promoting human rights and preventing discrimination based on these aspects of a person's identity. Many countries, including the Philippines, have discussions and proposals for SOGIE Equality Bills to protect against such discrimination.

* Self-Understanding: It helps individuals to better understand their own unique identities and preferences.
In essence, SOGIE highlights that these aspects of identity are distinct, diverse, and important for everyone.

Sexual Orientations
