A total of 3,280 bags of certified rice seeds were distributed to qualified rice farmers in Butuan City with the aim to help farmers increase rice productivity, improve crop yields, and reduce production costs for the current planting season.
The distribution activities were conducted on June 3 at the covered courts of Barangays Baobaoan and Bonbon, which served as designated drop-off points for farmer-beneficiaries from nearby communities. Through the Baobaoan RCEF Rice Seeds Distribution, 1,100 bags of certified rice seeds were released to farmers from Baobaoan, Los Angeles, Sumilihon, Sto. Niño, and Taguibo. Meanwhile, the Bonbon RCEF Rice Seeds Distribution covered 1,400 bags distributed to beneficiaries from Bancasi, Bonbon, Dumalagan, Kinamlutan, Libertad, Pinamanculan, Ambago, Doongan, and Bading.
The distribution continued on June 4 at the covered court of Barangay Maguinda, where 780 bags of certified rice seeds were distributed to farmers from Bilay, Florida, Maguinda, and Mandamo. Through the continued implementation of the DA-PhilRice RCEF Seed Program, farmers are provided with quality planting materials that can help improve harvests, strengthen food security, and support the sustainable growth of the rice farming sector in Butuan City.
The assistance is under the Department of Agriculture–Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) Seed Program, in partnership with the City Agriculture and Veterinary Department (CAVD).
