Yung kayo ang nagpakahirap kumita at magtipid, tapos ibang tao ang magdedesisyon kung saan mapupunta ang sweldo niyo?! Nakakagigil!
My partner and I have been together for almost 13 years. For many people our age, theyโre already settled down or raising children of their own. Ours is different. We chose not to have kids unless we become financially and emotionally stable โ or unless God decides to bless us with a little life someday.
There are many rea*ons behind that decision. He came from a less fortunate family, while I came from a broken home. Because of those experiences, we both understood early on how heavy responsibilities can become kapag hindi ka prepared emotionally, mentally, at financially.
Throughout those 13 years, we worked hard to improve our lives. Along the way, our responsibilities also grew. His mother passed away 10 years ago, and his father was never really the stable โhead of the familyโ type. So when my partner graduated, naturally he became one of the people carrying the responsibility of helping provide for his younger sister and supporting both his immediate and extended family whenever he could.
Back then, below average pa lang income namin, pero tumutulong pa rin kami however we could.
As our salaries improved, so did the expectations, responsibilities, and pressure around us.
One of the biggest struggles in our relationship was his difficulty saying โnoโ to relatives constantly asking for loans. At first, naiintindihan ko pa. They helped his parents before and helped him finish college. During his younger years, he also worked in their fields every summer habang nag-aaral just to contribute to both his schooling and their household needs. Because of that history, we chose to help whenever we could.
But most of those loans were never paid back.
As opportunities came, mas naging demanding ang work ng partner ko. He started traveling abroad for work incentives and business responsibilities โ carrying products, handling collections, negotiating transactions, fixing failed operations, and carrying pressures most people never even see behind the scenes.
We barely had time for ourselves, yet we continued helping his family, supporting his sister, and carrying responsibilities that honestly were never ours alone.
Recently, his sister graduated, got a probationary job, became pregnant, and sadly lost the baby during the first trimester.
It deeply affected us.
My partner struggles to express emotions without shutting down or turning things into arguments. As for me, I was hurt โ not because of the pregnancy itself, but because of all the sacrifices, opportunities, guidance, support, travels, experiences, and privileges we tried to give her hoping she would build a better and more stable future for herself.
In the end, parang everything collapsed because of immature decisions made with someone she barely knew for a short period of time.
To protect our peace, we decided to step back. We minimized communication, detached ourselves quietly, even on social media.
