PCCI Cagayan officers and members convened on August 28, 2026, at Villa Blessida, Cagayan, Tuguegarao City, to discuss key Chamber initiatives, upcoming engagements, and matters concerning the business community.

Among the matters discussed were:

📌 52nd Philippine Business Conference & Expo – Preparations and important details for PCCI Cagayan members who will attend the upcoming conference on October 13–14, 2026, including participation and activities during the event.

📌 Pax Silica Project – Discussion on the government’s initiative, with PCCI Cagayan emphasizing the importance of transparency, accountability, and meaningful Filipino participation in the project.

📌 EmpowerHer Cagayan – Discussion on the approval of the project budget under the DFAT Aid Program of Australia, supporting the implementation of initiatives for women and entrepreneurship in Cagayan.

📌 Most Outstanding Chamber Awards Entry – PCCI Cagayan’s participation and recognition in the upcoming Most Outstanding Chamber Awards, including preparations for its entry and the Chamber’s upcoming award at the Philippine Business Conference.

📌 DOST Export Development Project – Finalization of the terminal report for the DOST Export Development Project entitled “Boosting Global Reach: Export Development Programs for MSMEs in the Region,” highlighting the Chamber’s efforts in strengthening the export readiness and capabilities of MSMEs.

📌 2nd PCCI Cagayan Kapihan Session – The Chamber is set to hold its 2nd Kapihan Session on September 17, 2026, at 8:30 AM, featuring the BPI Ka-Negosyo Program. The session will provide members and MSMEs with an opportunity to learn more about BPI’s programs and support for entrepreneurs. Members and non-members are encouraged to participate!

𝐏𝐂𝐂𝐈 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞, 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), through its Energy and Power Committee, continues to engage government agencies and industry stakeholders to help shape an energy system that is affordable, reliable, secure and sustainable.

Recent dialogues with the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) focused on addressing key challenges affecting Philippine businesses, including high electricity costs, supply reliability, regulatory bottlenecks, transmission constraints and energy security.

PCCI President Ferdinand "Perry" Ferrer emphasized that competitive power is essential to national competitiveness and investment growth, particularly as industries such as manufacturing, semiconductors, electric vehicles and the digital economy expand.

During discussions with the DOE, officials reported that around 24,700 MW of additional committed generation capacity is expected between 2026 and 2033, with renewable energy accounting for the majority of new projects. The DOE also highlighted efforts to accelerate investments through project monitoring, streamlined permitting initiatives and plans for a natural gas auction to help support grid stability as renewable energy capacity grows.

Both the DOE and ERC recognized the importance of expanding transmission infrastructure alongside new generation capacity. Participants raised concerns over supply adequacy in the Visayas and called for stronger demand forecasting, additional interconnection capacity and more reliable regional power planning.

The ERC discussions provided insights into electricity pricing and ongoing reforms aimed at improving competition, accelerating approvals and encouraging investments in renewable energy and energy storage. PCCI also raised concerns regarding system-loss charges, Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) costs and the need for greater transparency in electricity billing. The ERC noted ongoing efforts to improve disclosure of pass-through charges and strengthen market transparency.

A common theme across both dialogues was the need to reduce regulatory "friction costs" that delay energy investments. Industry participants cited permitting and approval processes as major challenges, while the DOE discussed opportunities to further integrate permitting systems and strengthen coordination among national agencies and local government units.

The discussions likewise highlighted the opportunities created by the country's energy transition, including renewable energy, battery storage, offshore wind, waste-to-energy, natural gas and other emerging technologies. PCCI emphasized that these developments can open new value chains and business opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), not only as consumers but also as suppliers, service providers and technology partners.

The dialogue series reinforces a shared agenda: expanding generation and transmission capacity, strengthening energy security and reliability, improving market competitiveness, accelerating investments and enabling broader private-sector participation.

PCCI will continue consolidating recommendations from these discussions as part of its Energy Solutions initiative, which will contribute to policy discussions leading to the 52nd Philippine Business Conference and Expo, where energy and power will remain a key priority.

𝗧𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗴 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 — The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Human Resources Development Foundation, Inc. (PCCIHRDF), through the PCCI Education Cluster, convened educators, industry leaders, policymakers, and other stakeholders for a Round Table Discussion on the Proposed Reframing of the General Education (GE) Curriculum to strengthen the alignment between higher education and the evolving needs of the Philippine workforce.
The dialogue served as a platform to examine the Commission on Higher Education's (CHED) proposed restructuring of the General Education curriculum, with participants exploring how the curriculum can respond to changing industry demands while preserving the critical thinking, ethical grounding, and broad-based competencies fostered by liberal education.
PCCI President Perry Ferrer underscored the importance of the curriculum review in preparing Filipino graduates for an increasingly competitive and innovation-driven economy. "Let us take this opportunity to prepare our future leaders, our future unicorns," Ferrer said.
Ferrer emphasized that reviewing the General Education curriculum presents an opportunity to eliminate repetitive competencies, strengthen learning outcomes, and ensure graduates are equipped with skills that match the realities of today's labor market.
"As ASEAN continues to emerge as a hub for investment and innovation, the Philippines must position its workforce to seize the opportunities created by a more integrated regional economy," he said.
Although the implementation of the revised General Education curriculum has been deferred to 2028, Ferrer encouraged educators, students, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to actively participate in shaping the reforms.
The roundtable featured DLSU Political Science Professor Dr. Antonio Contreras as the resource speaker, who provided insights on the proposed curriculum reforms and facilitated discussions among participants on the opportunities and challenges of aligning higher education with the needs of industry while preserving the broader objectives of General Education.
The discussion brought together members of the PCCI Board of Directors and the PCCI Education Committee, providing an avenue for the business community to exchange perspectives and identify recommendations that would help strengthen the relevance of higher education to the needs of employers and the broader economy.
The insights generated during the dialogue will be consolidated into a set of policy recommendations to be presented to the government during the 52nd Philippine Business Conference & Expo on October 13–14, 2026, at The Manila Hotel. Through these recommendations, PCCI aims to help ensure that the business sector plays an active role in shaping an education system that produces graduates who are employable, adaptable, and well-rounded.

As part of its commitment to fostering business excellence and stakeholder engagement, the PCCI Cagayan Chapter officially holds its 1st Kapihan Series through a Special Learning Session on TESDA's Enterprise-Based Education and Training (EBET) Program.

Held on July 16 2026 at the Acustico Hall, Hotel Carmelita, the event brought together members and stakeholders to gain a deeper understanding of enterprise-based training opportunities that support workforce development and MSME competitiveness.

GOB. AGLIPAY, IPINANAWAGAN ANG PAGKAKAISA UPANG MAGING WORLD-CLASS STANDARDS ANG TURISMO SA CAGAYAN
Hiniling ni Gobernador Edgar “Tatay Egay” Aglipay ang patuloy na pagtutulungan ng iba’t ibang opisyal at tourism stakeholders ng Cagayan upang maging world class standards ang turismo sa probinsiya.
Ito ay kanyang inihayag sa pamamagitan ng “telephone conference” sa ginanap na joint meeting ng Provincial Tourism Council at Cagayana Cultural, Social, and Tourism Development Board Meeting (CCSTDB).
Pinangunahan nina CCSTDB Chairperson Atty. Mabel Villarica-Mamba, at CCSTDB Adviser Marinette Yan-Aglipay, ang Unang Ginang ng lalawigan, ang naturang pagpupulong. Kasama rin si EnP. Jenifer Junio-Baquiran, Provincial Tourism Officer at DOT Regional Director Troy Alexander Miano, Mayor Rellie Dalmaceda ng Gonzaga, mga miyembro ng konseho mula sa hanay ng mga ahensiya ng gobyerno, private sector, at mga departamento ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan ng Cagayan.
Sa kanyang mensahe bago ang talakayan, hinimok ng Unang Ginang ang lahat na magkaisa upang patuloy na maisulong ang mga adhikain ng lalawigan na maipakita hindi lamang ang mga destinasyon, maging ang yamang kultural at ang pagkakakilanlan ng mga Cagayano.
Binigyang-diin naman ni Atty. Villarica-Mamba na napakahitik ng tourism offerings ng Cagayan at hiniling na patuloy na pagbutihin ang serbisyo ng bawat isa upang manatiling masigla ang industriya ng turismo. Sinang-ayunan ito ni RD Miano kung saan kanyang binanggit ang mga inisyatibo nina Gob. Aglipay at Bise Gob. Mamba.
Samantala, tinalakay sa joint meeting ang mga nakalinyang aktibidad ng probinsiya lalo sa pagdiriwang ng Tourism Month sa buwan ng Setyembre, ang mga trade fair at expo na kung saan itatampok ang Cagayan at ibang pang bayan, at mga accomplishment sa pangunguna ng Cagayan Tourism Office.
Pinag-usapan din ang ilan sa mga mahahalagang accomplishment ng Cagayan, tulad ng pagkamit ng pinakamaraming DOT-accredited primary at secondary establishments sa buong rehiyon at ang pagkilala sa Cagayan bilang international cruise destination. Ito ay inihayag ni RD Miano at naniniwala siyang bunga ito ng matatag na ugnayan at kolaborasyon ng mga opisyal at ng tourism stakeholders.
Iprinisinta naman ni EnP. Junio-Baquiran ang iba’t ibang programa at proyekto ng CTO at ang mga plano ng PGC sa larangan ng turismo sa 2027.
Nagtapos ang pagpupulong sa pagkakasundo ng lahat na patuloy na magtutulungan upang tuluyang makamit ng Cagayan ang world-class standards sa turismo. (Mia Baquiran)
