𝗗𝗢𝗛 𝗖𝗩𝗖𝗛𝗗 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗡𝘂𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗡𝗗𝘀

As part of the 2026 Nutrition Month Celebration and in support of the Integrated Hospital Operations and Management Program (IHOMP), the Department of Health – Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development (DOH CVCHD), through its Health Facility Development Unit (HFDU), successfully conducted the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) Training on July 14–17, 2026 in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

The four-day activity brought together all Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians (RNDs) from government hospitals across Region II to strengthen their competencies and accelerate the implementation of the Nutrition Care Process in their respective health facilities.

During her inspirational message, Assistant Regional Director, Dr. Pretchell Tolentino emphasized the importance of nutrition as a cornerstone of quality and patient-centered healthcare.

Meanwhile, Dr. Brian Niño Galapia, Head of HFDU, encouraged participants to champion evidence-based nutrition practice and advocate for stronger nutrition services in their respective health facilities.

Through the combined expertise and practical insights by distinguished experts featuring Cagayan Valley Medical Center’s Ms. Ma. Justine Steffi C. Bacud, Nutritionist-Dietitian III; Ms. Johayra C. Gammad, Nutritionist-Dietitian II; and Ms. Gillian Faye D. Olivar, Nutritionist-Dietitian II, alongside Ms. Joselyn B. Laggui, Assistant Chief Nutritionist-Dietitian of East Avenue Medical Center and President of the DOH League of RNDs, Inc.; Ms. Andrea Costales, Nutritionist-Dietitian III of Region I Medical Center; and Mr. Jason R. Austria, Nutritionist-Dietitian III of Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center, participants were equipped with evidence-based approaches and best practices for delivering high-quality nutrition care.

Throughout the training, participants enhanced their competencies through lectures, workshops, hands-on exercises, and case study presentations focused on the four steps of the Nutrition Care Process — Nutrition Assessment, Nutrition Diagnosis, Nutrition Intervention, and Nutrition Monitoring and Evaluation; the activity also provided an avenue for participants to discuss common implementation challenges, including budget constraints, limited manpower, and the need for stronger management support.

As part of its continuing commitment to strengthen hospital nutrition services, the DOH CVCHD also announced the dissemination of a Regional Circular reiterating the implementation of the Budget Meal Calculator and the conduct of an online advocacy meeting with hospital leaders and LGU partners - an initiative aimed to strengthen institutional support for the Nutrition Care Process and reinforce the message that investing in nutrition is an investment in better patient outcomes, faster recovery, shorter hospital stays, and improved quality of healthcare.

Through this initiative, the DOH CVCHD reaffirms its commitment to institutionalizing the Nutrition Care Process across all government hospitals in Region II by empowering Registered Nutritionist-Dietitians with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to provide standardized, evidence-based, and patient-centered nutrition care for every Filipino patient.

🌾𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙃𝙖𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙨𝙩: 𝙍𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚, 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙀𝙭𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝙉𝙪𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙚

The Nutrition and Dietetics interns at Cagayan Valley Medical Center successfully concluded their 600-hour clinical internship on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the CVMC Amphitheater.

Present in the said event were the following: Chief Training Officer of Professional Education Training and Research Unit (PETRU) - Dr. Maria Cristina Joy I. Cammayo, Program Chair of CSU-CAHS Nutrition and Dietetics - Dr. Milagros Suyu, Faculty of CSU-CAHS - Ms. Anzia-Taguinod, NNC-Region II Nutrition Officer III - Mr. Edzell Arcinue, CSU-CAHS College Secretary - Mr. Christian Dale Suriaga, and the Registered Nutritionists-Dietitians of Cagayan Valley Medical Center- Nutrition and Dietetics Service, headed by Ms. Geraldine Fe Melad.

During the program, the batch leader expressed deep gratitude to the CVMC-NDS through a heartfelt speech, "Our clinical internship felt like creating a recipe, each ingredient needing balance to become meaningful. Despite challenges and imperfections, every experience, whether joyful, difficult, or painful, shaped our growth. In fact, we learned most not from our successes, but from our mistakes, struggles, and moments of overwhelm, all of which became essential in molding who we are today." Alcaraz shared.

This milestone marked the culmination of a rigorous four-month clinical internship at the region’s premier tertiary hospital that turned the interns’ academic knowledge into practical expertise, allowing them to fully immerse themselves in the dietitian’s role, giving them a firsthand look at how nutritional science directly impacts patient outcomes. Hence, under the institution's expert guidance, the said interns were honored to have earned the following accolades:
