QUEZON CITY— Tubalan Comprehensive National High School of Malita, Davao Occidental has garnered national recognition after securing 6th place in the 2025 National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools (NSSEFS) for the high school category.

Under the leadership of Regional Director EnP Alnulfo M. Alvarez of the DENR-EMB, the award highlights Tubalan Comprehensive National High School’s strong commitment to integrating sustainability across all aspects of education. The school has effectively embedded environmental principles in governance, curriculum delivery, research, community engagement, and campus-based programs.

The award was received by the school’s teaching personnel—School Head Josie R. Dela Cruz, Master Teacher Amelita B. Bautista, and Division Education Program Supervisor and NSSEFS Focal Person Irine C. Mahinay—together with Jay Christoffer F. Bawi-in, Chief of the Environmental Solid Waste Management Section (ESWMS) of EMB XI.

The National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools (NSSEFS) is a flagship biennial initiative led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB), in partnership with various government agencies and stakeholders. The program honors schools nationwide that exhibit outstanding commitment to environmental stewardship through sustainable practices, climate action, and innovative ecological programs.

This achievement reflects the collective efforts of the school’s students, faculty, and stakeholders in advancing a greener and more sustainable future. It also underscores the vital role of educational institutions in cultivating environmental awareness and responsibility.

In observance of Earth Day, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) emphasized its continued efforts to promote sustainability through education, inspiring communities to take part in practical and long-term environmental solutions.

The awarding ceremony was held on April 22, 2026, at Seda Vertis North in Quezon City, in celebration of Earth Day.

LOOK || Tubalan Comprehensive National High School students began the program with a career orientation that provided guidance and insights about their chosen professions, followed by the Career Guidance Parade where learners proudly showcased their aspirations through creative costumes and presentations, with winners later announced in each career category.

The program also featured the Oath Taking Ceremony of the newly elected Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSLG) Officers. In a symbolic transition of leadership, former SSLG President Gillian Michelle Panayas formally handed the key of responsibility to the newly elected SSLG President Linnel M. Lagansua, marking the beginning of a new chapter of leadership and service for the student body.

SSLG President Linnel M. Lagansua pledged to uphold the values of unity, cooperation, and dedication, promising to work hand in hand with the students and officers to strengthen the bond within the school community and ensure that every voice is heard and respected. This meaningful commitment reflects the SSLG’s mission to serve with integrity and inspire a culture of collaboration among all learners.
