A student of Southern Leyte State University once again brought pride and honor to the campus after securing 2nd place in the FishCoRExhibit Regional Competition held on May 13, 2026.

Ms. Jocelyn Salva, a 3rd-year BSBA Major in Marketing Management student, earned the distinction for her outstanding sculpture artwork, which showcased creativity and a strong advocacy for fisheries development and aquatic resource conservation. The regional competition challenged participants to create sculptures that highlighted the importance of sustainable fisheries and the protection of aquatic resources.

Her remarkable achievement reflects not only her artistic talent and dedication but also Southern Leyte State University's commitment to nurturing excellence and environmental awareness among its students.

SLSU–Tomas Oppus Secures 1st Place at the Startup Arena: Innovation Showcase

Congratulations to Rhyzel Joy Sotto and Zymur Quisado, exchange students from Southern Leyte State University – Tomas Oppus Campus (SLSU-TO), for bringing pride to the university after securing First Place in the international Startup Arena: Innovation Showcase held at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Their startup, Banana Works, impressed the judges with its innovative and sustainable concept of transforming banana fibers into eco-friendly paper products—demonstrating creativity, environmental responsibility, and entrepreneurial excellence.

This achievement reflects the capability of SLSU students to compete and excel on the global stage, embodying innovation and sustainability in action.

𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗡 | ‎Exchange students of the short-term academic exchange and cultural immersion program from Southern Leyte State University-Tomas Oppus (SLSU-TO) brought pride to the university as they emerged victorious in the Startup Arena: Innovation Showcase, presenting creative ideas on an international stage.

‎Rhyzel Joy Sotto and Zymur Quisado clinched first place with their startup, Banana Works, promoting sustainability and eco-friendly alternatives by ther innovative concept into turning banana fibers into paper products.

‎Following in the second place were Edelita Amrento, Trisha Joy Monghit, and John Paul Cadavez with their startup product, eAlaga, an accessible, web-based healthcare platform.

‎Out of the five presenting groups, SLSU-TO secured both the 1st and 2nd places, while Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) claimed the 3rd rank.
