𝗜𝗖𝗬𝗠𝗜 | 𝗔 𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝗯 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀; 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝘁?
Humans are not the only ones who care about how food tastes or smells – aquatic animals do too. In feed development research, attractability and palatability tests are important study areas one should not miss. Developing feeds that are acceptable to aquatic animals ensures efficient and effective feeding, which leads to productive farming.

In SEAFDEC/AQD, a study by research consultant Dr. Myrna Teruel reformulated the feeds for adult mangrove crabs (𝘚𝘤𝘺𝘭𝘭𝘢 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘢) to include cost-effective ingredients, such as mussel meat. To ensure that the animals will consume the new formulation, an attractability study was done using a Y-maze.
