O God, who called us to a life of holiness, fill us with your spirit of love and truth. As we gather to praise and thank you for the gift of St. Catherine of Siena to the Church, we ask you to bless us and make as one. May her life and example inspire and give us courage to follow you faithfully. Help us to be true witness of your compassionate love in word and in deeds.
Through St. Catherineโs intercession, make us loyal children of your church, dedicated and committed to its evangelizing mission so that our vision of becoming a โcommunity of disciples, living in harmony and in solidarity with you, with one another and with creationโ and becoming a โChurch of the Poorโ may truly become a reality.
This we ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Catherine of Siena preached a Gospel of mercy in her day. She had a profound perception of the suffering of the world, particularly of the suffering caused by sin and of the deep need there was for Godโs mercy. Often, in her prayer, as she experienced divine mercy towards her, she would hear God saying, โI want to show mercy to the world and I want to do so through you and my other servants.
Her response was to go out and tell the people about divine mercy which she described as most characteristic of God. Mercy is โproperโ to God, she loved to state. Because God is a God of infinite mercy. Catherine regarded the refusal to call on divine mercy as worst human tragedy, a tragedy even greater than sin.
In her dealings with others, therefore, she constantly urged them using all her powers of persuasion, never to despair, but instead to throw themselves on Godโs mercy. The Gospel of mercy is best proclaimed when it is communicated not only by words but also by the compassionate behavior of the preacher.
A former Master of the Order, Vincent de Couesnogle, in urging the members of the Order to preach a Gospel of Mercy put the following petitions in them:
Is mercy really a living force with us?
Is it something springs from human misery gripping us and knocking us out of our normal habits?
Does it force us to change our ways and keep us awake at night?

Eternal God, restore health to the sick. Give us a voice, your own voice to cry out to you for mercy for the world and for the reform of the Holy Church, and listen to your own voice with which we cry out to you. Amen. (Petition โฆ Glory to the Father and to the Son and to Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen.

O God, in meditating on the sufferings of your Son and in serving your Church St. Catherine was filled with the fervor of your love. By her prayers, may we share in the mystery of Christโs death and rejoice in revelation of His glory, for He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen
