Another hazing death - that of Mark Kenneth Alcedo - constrains Tau Gamma Phi Global to release this statement.
The affiliation of the group of Philippine Nautical and Technological Colleges (PNTC) students who are allegedly involved can be traced to the so-called National Executive Council (NEC), also known as the National Council.
The Tau Gamma Phi founded in the University of the Philippines on October 4, 1968, and its worldwide governance structure, Tau Gamma Phi Global, have no affiliation with the NEC, a renegade faction spuriously claiming leadership of the Tau Gamma Phi in the Philippines, while rejecting the legacy of the Founding Fathers
and the authority of Tau Gamma Phi Global.
The NEC group claims to promote RA 11053, the Anti-Hazing Act, but has never acted to seriously inform and enable its members to comply with the law, much less enforce it, and has even issued instructions that are in contravention of the law. Furthermore, the NEC group has continuously sought to hinder efforts by Tau Gamma Phi Global to orient chapters and councils on the law, thus propagating the ignorance that has continued to victimize both initiators and neophytes.
To counter the harm, Tau Gamma Phi Global teams have been conducting orientations not only for Triskelions, but also for schools and local government units to enable these institutions to comply with the relevant provisions of the law, and to forewarn their students and community youth. In its October 2024 โSo The Public May Knowโ statement, Tau Gamma Phi Global provided hotlines for the public to verify a chapterโs affiliation with Tau Gamma Phi Global and compliance with RA 11053, and for reporting any incidence of hazing.
