FEATURE | A Heart That Leads

In every academic institution, there are individuals whose presence goes beyond their title—people who shape lives not only through knowledge, but through compassion and genuine care.

For many students, Ms. Irish T. Valdeavilla is one of those remarkable individuals. As an instructor, assistant registrar, and adviser of several student organizations including The Skorpios, Prisma, Peers, and the Taekwondo team, she has become a guiding light for countless students who look up to her not only as an educator, but also as a mentor and a second parent. Ms. Valdeavilla is widely known for her kind heart and nurturing nature. In the classroom, she does more than teach lessons from books—she inspires students to believe in themselves and to pursue their dreams with courage. Her patience and dedication make learning an experience where students feel supported and understood.

Beyond the classroom, her role as an assistant registrar reflects her strong sense of responsibility and commitment to service. Through this position, she helps ensure that students’ academic journeys run smoothly, always ready to assist with care and professionalism. Even in the midst of administrative responsibilities, she never loses the warmth that students have come to appreciate.

Her influence extends further through her leadership as an adviser to several student organizations—The Skorpios, Prisma, Peers, and the Taekwondo team. In these communities, she is more than an adviser who oversees activities. She becomes a constant source of encouragement and guidance. Students often say that she treats them as if they were her own children, offering support during difficult times and celebrating their victories, big or small.

For members of these organizations, Ms. Valdeavilla creates a space where they feel valued, heard, and inspired to grow. Her leadership fosters unity, confidence, and a sense of belonging among students. Whether guiding organizational projects, mentoring leaders, or supporting athletes in Taekwondo, she ensures that every student knows they matter.

Ms. Irish T. Valdeavilla’s story reminds us of the beauty and strength of being a woman. True womanhood is reflected not only in achievements, but in the ability to nurture, inspire, and uplift others. Through her dedication to education, service, and student development, she embodies the qualities of resilience, compassion, and grace.

In a world where positive role models are deeply valued, Ms. Irish T. Valdeavilla stands as a testament to the powerful impact a woman can have in shaping the future. Through her kindness, leadership, and unwavering support for her students, she continues to leave a lasting imprint on the hearts and lives of those she guides.

Indeed, her story is a celebration of what it truly means to lead with both strength and love—qualities that make womanhood truly beautiful.

Nurturing Minds, Building Resilience: Prioritizing Mental Health for all

‎The Mental Health Month event in October was initiated by the Guidance Counseling and Testing Center together with the Supreme Student Council and Peer Facilitators and with an invited local organizations at SLSU-Tayabas such as Students’ Association for Technology and Automation (SATA) for technical assistance, Skorpios for documentation, SLSU Tayabas Choir for ceremonial music, and Aeschorean Danza Blaze (ADB) for performance.

‎Prof. Fides Joyce O. Llegado discussed important points about mental health, including breaking the stigma, strengthening empathy, and promoting holistic well-being.

‎This seminar is very important for all of us to learn what mental health is, how to take care of it, and how we can help ourselves and others.
