AUGUST 4 | MEMORIAL OF ST. JOHN VIANNEY
Patron Saint of Priests

St. John Vianney was born in Lyons, France in 1786. After overcoming many difficulties, he was ordained a priest and then entrusted with a parish in the French provincial town of Ars. There he cared for a small country parish in a marvelous way. His preaching, his personal mortifications, his prayer, and, in general, his works of charity earned him the admiration of even the most severe skeptics.

The Curé of Ars was renowned especially for great skill in helping penitents, and so people came to him from even faraway regions in order to receive his spiritual counsel. He died on Aug. 4, 1859, and was canonized by Pope Pius XI on May 31, 1925.

Let us offer our prayers for our priests, especially those who are close to us. We remember, as St. John says, that the priesthood is the love of the heart of Christ. When we see a priest, we see Christ.

Don’t forget to greet our priests—especially those we will meet today. Happy Priests’ Day! Special greetings to our Tandag priests!

Fr. Soje,

Today, we honestly don't know where to begin expressing our gratitude for all the little and big things you have done for the Youth Ministry.

You may not be a perfect director, but your support, guidance, and presence made things easier for all of us. We always felt comfortable approaching you, whether it was for ministry concerns, advice, or even the simplest requests. Grabe kadali doolan ang hangyoon.

Salamat kaayo, Father, sa tanan nimong pabor ug suporta sa youth—sa snacks, meals, free rides, ug sa daghan pang mga butang nga imong gihatag sa amo. Tinuod gyud, SPOILED kaayo mi nimo. Mao nang usahay lisod kaayong mobalibad kung ikaw na ang mohangyo sa amo.

More than all those things, we are grateful for the trust you placed in us, for believing in our potential, and for journeying with us as we grew in faith and service.
