EnMO Kenneth John E. Cuartero talked about the salient features of RA 9003 during the Strategic Planning on Ecological Solid Waste Management on November 14-15, 2024, at Madrid Convention Center in Brgy. Linibunan, Madrid, Surigao del Sur.

The event, organized by the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of LGU-Madrid, aimed to strengthen local efforts in managing solid waste and promoting sustainable practices within the community. With the theme "Lado Ko, Limpyohan Ko, Basura Ko, Hipuson Ko," its drive was to further empower participants to take responsibility for waste management in their respective communities.

The said gathering was packed with barangay officials and personnel from all BLGUs in Madrid, as well as representatives from the Public Market Vendors Association, junkshop owners, and personnel from various local institutions, including the Madrid District Hospital, Madrid National High School, Saint Michael School and Madrid Central Elementary School.

Other topics presented were, Best SWM Practices, and S Guide on Community-Based Ecological SWM.

Kenneth John E. Cuartero, Environmental Monitoring Officer of the Provincial Environmental Management Unit of Surigao del Sur, served as a resource person during the Training-Seminar on Handicraft Production from Office Waste Materials.

The event, held on October 28-29, 2024 at Shacene Pension House in Tandag City was initiated and organized by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of Surigao del Sur. Representatives from all Local Government Units (LGUs) in the province participated in said activity.

Mr. Cuartero discussed the significance of recycling and outlined the legal policies that support effective waste management. By blending creativity with sustainable practices, the seminar aimed to empower participants to implement innovative solutions for waste minimization and resource recovery within their communities.

Environmental Monitoring Officer Julifie C. Bernados, along with Senior EMS Diana Mae D. Rivera from the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Section, provided technical assistance to the LGU of Bislig City for their Waste Analysis and Characterization Studies (WACS) from August 13 to 16, 2024.

The WACS is part of the update to LGU-Bislig City's 10-year Ecological Solid Waste Management Plan. The activity involved three phases: pre-WACS, actual WACS, and data analysis.

The LGU-Bislig City ENRO, under the direction of Forester Daniel P. Jabagat, initiated this activity.
