🚨 DO NOT MOVE ACCIDENT VICTIMS UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY! 🚨
“One wrong move can turn a survivable injury into permanent damage or worse.”
When a vehicular accident occurs, many bystanders instinctively rush to help. While the intention is good, moving the victim without proper reason can cause serious harm.
Here’s why:
1. Spinal injuries: Even if they look fine, victims may have neck, back, or spinal injuries. Moving them incorrectly can paralyze or permanently disable them.
2. Internal injuries: Accidents often cause internal bleeding or organ damage that isn’t visible. Sudden movement can worsen bleeding or shock.
3. Bystander safety: Vehicles may be unstable, leaking fuel or in traffic, moving victims recklessly can endanger both you and them.
✅ Only move a victim if their life is in immediate danger, such as:
- Fire or fuel leak
- Oncoming traffic putting them at risk
- Environmental hazards like flooding, landslides, or collapsing structures
📌 What you should do while waiting for emergency responders:
- Call local emergency number immediately
- Control bleeding using a clean cloth, bandage, or whatever is available
- Keep the victim calm and still, avoid unnecessary movement
- Monitor breathing and consciousness until trained personnel arrive
⚠ Remember:
Every second counts in an accident but moving a victim improperly can cause irreversible harm. Your best action as a bystander is to stabilize, protect and call for help.
