The Youth Service Philippines – GLAN Chapter proudly participates in 𝐃𝐔𝐋𝐀 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐀!, a KidsLIFE Psychosocial Program dedicated to bringing hope and healing to children and young people affected by the recent floods and earthquakes.

Beyond stories and performances, this initiative creates a safe space where young hearts can smile again, express their emotions, and rediscover hope after difficult times. Every laugh shared, every game played, and every lesson learned is a reminder that no one has to face hardship alone.

Together, we stand with our communities—not only to rebuild homes, but also to restore hope, strengthen resilience, and remind every child that brighter days are ahead. 💛

Youth Service Philippines (YSP) joined advocates, civil society organizations, and community partners in supporting the call for cleaner, healthier, and safer communities during the 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗲-𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗮𝗽𝗲-𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 (𝗦𝗙𝗩𝗙) 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹, 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗖𝗲𝗯𝘂 on August 14, 2026.

Representing Youth Service Philippines were 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗲𝗯𝘂 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗭𝗮𝗳𝗿𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗲𝗯𝘂 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗮𝗽𝗶𝗮, who took part in the activity and joined fellow advocates in raising awareness on the importance of protecting communities from the harmful effects of secondhand smoke and v**e aerosols.

The activity was organized as part of the continuing advocacy for the 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗲-𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗮𝗽𝗲-𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗹, bringing together different sectors through creative and meaningful forms of public engagement. The program featured a film screening and talkback session, as well as a collaborative mural unveiling and artists' booths, demonstrating how storytelling and art can become powerful tools for public health advocacy.

A major part of the activity was the 𝗧𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗢𝗙𝗙𝗡𝗼𝘄! 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀' 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗣𝗟𝗖𝗣𝗗) together with partner organizations at the University of the Philippines Cebu Audio-Visual Room. Held in connection with 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆, the screening used film and storytelling to encourage conversations surrounding smoke-free and v**e-free spaces and the protection of public health.

Six short films were presented during the screening, namely “𝗞𝗮𝗽𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗮,” “𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗼𝘀,” “𝗛𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘁 𝗛𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗸,” “𝗦𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻,” “𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗮 𝘀𝗮 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻,” and the Cebuano-made film “𝗣𝗮𝗵𝘂𝘄𝗮𝘆.” Each film offered a different perspective that encouraged audiences to reflect on smoking, va**ng, their effects on communities, and the importance of creating environments where people can live healthier lives.

The Cebuano film “𝗣𝗮𝗵𝘂𝘄𝗮𝘆,” directed by 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗹, also brought a local perspective to the conversation. Drawing from his experiences within different communities in Cebu, Gabriel shared how smoking and va**ng are common within some spaces, particularly among members of the artist community. Rather than approaching individuals with judgment, he emphasized the importance of understanding and showing sympathy toward people, recognizing that meaningful change can happen through time and support.

Following the film screening, participants and organizers took part in a 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, creating an opportunity to further discuss the messages presented in the films and the broader advocacy for smoke-free and v**e-free environments.

The activity also highlighted the strategic role of 𝗖𝗲𝗯𝘂 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘆𝗮𝘀' 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰, 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀. Bringing the campaign to Cebu strengthens the opportunity to engage young people, communities, advocates, and other stakeholders in conversations that contribute to nationwide support for healthier and safer public spaces.

For Youth Service Philippines, participation in initiatives such as this reflects the organization's commitment to empowering young people to become informed, responsible, and active members of their communities. Youth leadership is not only about taking part in programs, but also about understanding issues that affect public welfare and using one's voice and actions to contribute to positive change.

As young leaders and volunteers continue to participate in conversations surrounding public health, community development, and responsible citizenship, YSP remains committed to its mission to 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲, 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲.

Youth Service Philippines (YSP) proudly participated in the 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗡 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀, held on August 5–6, 2026, at the 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 (𝗣𝗜𝗖𝗖) 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆.

Representing Youth Service Philippines were 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗮 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗭. 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗼 𝗗𝗶ñ𝗼 𝗔𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗮, who joined approximately 300 youth leaders, sectoral representatives, and government officials from across the ASEAN Member States in a two-day gathering focused on the future of young people in an increasingly digital world.

Together with 𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗼 𝗔𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗮, Lea and Leo also served as 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁, helping gather, organize, and synthesize the insights, recommendations, experiences, and perspectives shared by participating youth. Their role contributed to the collective effort of transforming diverse youth voices into shared ideas and meaningful recommendations for a safer, more inclusive, and digitally resilient ASEAN.

Organized by the 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗗𝗦𝗪𝗗) in partnership with the 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗡𝗬𝗖), the summit provided a platform for young leaders to engage in discussions surrounding digital safety, responsible technology use, ethical innovation, inclusivity, and meaningful youth participation in policymaking.

Throughout the two-day gathering, participants explored the opportunities and challenges brought by emerging technologies and the rapidly changing digital landscape. Discussions examined concerns including misinformation, digital inequality, algorithmic bias, cybercrime, online safety, and the broader impact of technology on communities and young people.

The summit went beyond discussion as participants took part in 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝘀, 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗧𝗔𝗟𝗞 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗜 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝘀𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀, creating spaces where youth leaders could exchange perspectives, develop ideas, and explore practical approaches to addressing digital challenges.

For Youth Service Philippines, the summit represented more than participation in a regional event. It was an opportunity to 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗔𝗡.

The participation of Lea and Leo also reflects YSP's continuing commitment to providing young Filipinos with opportunities to engage in leadership, advocacy, collaboration, and regional youth development. Their experience at the summit strengthens the organization's mission to create spaces where young people can learn from one another and transform shared knowledge into meaningful action within their communities.

As technology continues to shape the way people communicate, learn, work, and participate in society, young people have an important responsibility to become not only users of technology, but also 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲.

The ASEAN Youth Summit 2026 serves as a reminder that the voices of young people matter in shaping conversations about technology, governance, community development, and regional cooperation. When young leaders are given the opportunity to participate, collaborate, and contribute, they become powerful partners in creating solutions for the challenges faced by their generation.

As Youth Service Philippines continues to 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲, 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲, the organization carries forward the lessons, connections, and shared vision gained from the summit and brings them back to Filipino communities.

Today, 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 (𝗬𝗦𝗣) joins young people around the world in celebrating 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, a day that recognizes the energy, creativity, potential, and meaningful contributions of the youth in building a better future.

Being young is more than simply being part of a generation. It is about having the courage to dream, the confidence to speak up, and the willingness to take action. Every idea shared, every friendship formed, every community served, and every challenge faced becomes part of a journey that shapes not only who we are, but also the communities we hope to build.

For many young people, leadership begins with something simple, choosing to care. It can be seen in volunteers who give their time, leaders who create opportunities for others, and young changemakers who use their voices to make a difference. These actions may seem small, but when young people come together, they can create an impact that reaches far beyond themselves.

International Youth Day is also a reminder that young people deserve to be heard, supported, and given meaningful opportunities to participate. Our dreams, perspectives, talents, and experiences matter, and when given the space to grow, the youth can become powerful partners in creating positive change.

As Youth Service Philippines continues to 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲, 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲, may we encourage every young person to embrace their potential, discover their purpose, build meaningful connections, and use their talents in service of others.

Today, Youth Service Philippines joins the global community in honoring the rich cultures, traditions, knowledge, identities, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples around the world.

Indigenous communities are keepers of generations of wisdom—protecting languages, traditions, ancestral knowledge, and deep connections with the land and nature. Their stories and experiences are an important part of the history and identity of our communities and our nation.

As we celebrate this day, may we go beyond recognition and continue to promote respect, inclusion, equality, cultural preservation, and meaningful participation of Indigenous Peoples in society. Their voices deserve to be heard, their traditions deserve to be respected, and their rights deserve to be protected.

For us, celebrating Indigenous Peoples means creating spaces where Indigenous youth can confidently embrace their heritage, share their stories, lead their communities, and contribute to building a more inclusive future.

Let us celebrate diversity not by simply appreciating differences, but by listening, learning, respecting, and standing together. May every culture be honored, every voice be heard, and every Indigenous community be empowered to shape its own future.

As a student and youth leader from Tawi-Tawi, I lead with the lessons our elders taught me: stay humble, stay close to your roots, and serve everyone with an open heart. I speak for the youth in our remote islets, for my fellow students, and for every family here that deserves to be seen. Together with Youth Service Philippines, we work to build a future where no one in our islands is left behind.

True leadership starts with listening. It is about paying attention to the stories that others ignore, and caring enough to act on them. I have talked to students who almost gave up on school, and young people who feel like their voices never reach beyond our shores. I do not lead to stand above anyone else. I lead so these struggles are heard, and so we can all move forward together.

Being a leader in Tawi-Tawi means loving both our traditions and our growth. We do not have to choose between our culture and new opportunities. We can keep our values strong, honor our identity, and still build better lives right here at home. Our islands are full of talent and hope, and it is my job to help that light shine.

With Youth Service Philippines, we serve with purpose. We reach out to far communities, support our fellow youth, and remind everyone that you do not need a big title to make a difference. You only need to care, and to start where you are.

Let us keep leading with kindness and courage. Let us build a Tawi-Tawi where every dream matters, and every young person has the chance to lead too.

Ilang beses mo na bang itatanong sa sarili mo kung sulit pa ba ang maglingkod?

Alam niyo, may mga araw na mapapalakpakan ka. May mga araw rin na ikaw ang pupunahin.

At, may mga panahong nararamdaman mong sapat lahat ng pagod. Mayroon ding mga gabing tatanungin mo ang sarili mo kung may saysay pa ba ang lahat.

Ngunit doon ko unti-unting naunawaan ang isang bagay at yun ang tunay na lider ay hindi nabubuo sa dami ng tagumpay, kundi sa dami ng pagkakataong pinili niyang manatiling tapat sa kanyang paninindigan kahit walang itong nakakakita.

At alam niyo, hindi naging madali sa akin ang paglalakbay, mula sa pagiging simpleng estudyante hanggang sa pagkakaroon ng pagkakataong mamuno, makinig, magkamali, matuto, at muling bumangon.

At kung may isang aral man akong nais baunin sa bawat posisyong aking hinahawakan ay ito yun: Sa huli, hindi ang lakas ng iyong tinig ang maalala ng mga tao, kundi ang bigat ng iyong paninindigan.

𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗧𝗛 𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗘 𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦

Ang wika ay higit pa sa mga salitang ating binibigkas. Ito ang daluyan ng ating kasaysayan, mga pangarap, at mga pagpapahalagang ipinapasa mula sa isang henerasyon patungo sa susunod. Sa bawat salitang Filipino na ating ginagamit, pinananatili nating buhay ang ating kultura at pinalalakas ang ating diwang makabayan.

Bilang mga kabataan, nawa'y patuloy nating ipagmalaki, pagyamanin, at gamitin ang ating sariling wika sa tahanan, paaralan, komunidad, at maging sa digital na mundo. Sa pamamagitan ng wika, mas napapalalim natin ang ating pagkakaunawaan, napapalakas ang ating pagkakaisa, at naipapahayag natin ang ating tunay na pagkatao bilang mga Pilipino.

Sa Youth Service Philippines, naniniwala kaming ang kabataang may pagmamahal sa sariling wika ay kabataang may pagmamahal sa bayan. Sama-sama nating ipagdiwang ang ating mayamang kultura at ipakita na ang wikang Filipino ay buhay, makabuluhan, at patuloy na nagbibigay inspirasyon sa bawat henerasyon.
