In a world where environmental challenges continue to grow, we are constantly reminded of how vulnerable our planet can be. From devastating floods and typhoons to polluted waterways and the loss of natural ecosystems, the consequences of environmental neglect are felt by communities around the world.
But amidst these challenges, there is also hope.
Hope begins when people choose to act.
Yesterday, September 2, 2026, the banks and waters of the Nabintad River in Barangay Madaum, Tagum City became a place where that hope came to life through Bangkasurero: Tidal Creek Clean-up Drive Activity 2026.
What began as a clean-up drive became a day filled with energy, laughter, teamwork, and a shared sense of purpose. From local leaders and volunteers to Rotarians, scholars, government personnel, and partner organizations, everyone climbed aboard and got to work, proving that protecting our environment is a responsibility we can all share.
And yes, there was a little friendly competition along the way! Teams worked to collect as much waste as they could, with a cash prize awarded to those who collected the heaviest haul.
But beyond the rankings, the prizes, and the excitement of the competition, one thing remained true:
๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐ฎ ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐จ๐ค๐ฃ ๐ฌ๐๐ค ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ฉ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ฌ๐๐จ ๐๐ก๐ง๐๐๐๐ฎ ๐ ๐ฌ๐๐ฃ๐ฃ๐๐ง ๐๐ค๐ง ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐ฃ๐ซ๐๐ง๐ค๐ฃ๐ข๐๐ฃ๐ฉ.
The activity was spearheaded by the Philippine Councilors League Davao del Norte Chapter, with the support of the 10th City Council of Tagum City, and brought together the Rotary Club of Tagum, Rotary Club of Tagum North, Rotary Club of Tagum Golden LACES, Soroptimist International City of Palms Tagum City, Bureau of Fire Protection Tagum City, Philippine Coast Guard, and local government officials and volunteers.
Our gratitude also goes to the Tagum City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and the local personnel of Nabintad River who provided their boats and assistance, making the activity possible.
This activity reminded us that meaningful change doesn't always begin with something grand. Sometimes, it begins with a boat, a pair of hands, a bag of collected waste, and a group of people willing to show up.
One person may only collect a few pieces of trash.
But when many hands come together, small efforts can grow into a powerful movement.
And just like ripples spreading across the water, our actions today can reach far into the future.
