The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) Tagum Unit served as a venue for celebration and reflection on December 17, 2025, as the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (DABE), together with the Society of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering Students (SABES) and the Philippine Society of Agricultural and Biosystems EngineeringโPre-Professional Group (PSABE-PPG) USeP Chapter, honored the successful examinees of the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineer Licensure Examination (ABELE) 2025.
Held at the PECC Gymnasium, the recognition ceremony began with a Thanksgiving Mass followed by a motorcade around the city. The program formally opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Joie D. Cataytay, who emphasized that academic success is never achieved alone. โSuccess is always a team effort. It's built on having great mentors, getting cheered on, and all working towards the same goal,โ Dr. Cataytay told the audience.
Following an introduction by Engr. Honeybee S. Limbaro, the keynote address was delivered by guest speaker Atty. Rae Davy T. Opisan, an Agricultural and Biosystems Engineer and a lawyer. She reminded the passers that earning a license comes with responsibility and advocacy. โPlease don't ever get discouraged. It is your duty now to educate those who are not aware that we exist. It is your duty now to tell them that we are relevant,โ said Atty. Opisan, who is also a Bayaw. She further emphasized that regardless of future career paths, the foundation of being an engineer โwill not disappear.โ
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the sharing of insights from USePโs top performers, who reflected on the mindset and values that helped them succeed.
Top 6 placer Engr. Niรฑo Jan S. Dagsangan highlighted the importance of collaboration over competition. โNever treat them as your competitor but rather an individual na magdala padulong sa kadaugan,โ he said. He encouraged students to support one another, adding, โShare what you know, and the resources that you have, and others will do the same.โ He concluded by acknowledging faith as a cornerstone of their journey: โWe started our review with a prayer, and it must end with glorifying the one who gave us the victory.โ
Meanwhile, the Top 7 placer Engr. Emmanuel L. Maghuyop spoke about sustaining motivation during the long months of review. โThe hardest part during my review was maintaining motivationโunsaon pag sustain kay grabe kataas ang 5 months,โ he shared. Nevertheless, his message centered on self-belief, adding, โSalig lang mo sa inyong kaugalingon. Bahalag walay salig sa imo ang tanan, ayaw lang tanggala ang salig nimo sa imong sarili.โ
Top 9 placer Engr. Meraflor L. Mondigo highlighted the responsibility that comes with the professional title. โWear your title with prideโbut more importantly, with responsibility,โ she said. She also urged her fellow engineers to look beyond technical work, stating, โLet us use our knowledge not just to build systems but to build a better future.โ
Adding a personal perspective, Engr. Jhon Rey Pelenio shared his journey marked by setbacks and perseverance. He reminded the audience, โKapag mag-fail ka or makaexperience kag failure, i-lift-up imong self.โ He reframed the licensure examination as more than an academic hurdle, saying, โTaking the board exam is not just about college, it is about your courage, willingness, faith, and discipline. It is not how you started, it is how you end the game. It seems impossible until it's done.โ
The event concluded with a โToast to Successโ led by BSABE Program Head Engr. Teofilo Jr. U. Sevilla symbolizes the official transition of the graduates into the professional field. As the new engineers gathered for a final photo, the message resonated clearly: their licenses are not merely credentials, but commitments to serve the communities they will one day help build.
