Did you know that ₱2.5 billion has been allocated for cancer prevention and patient care in the Philippines for 2026?

For many Filipino families, a cancer diagnosis can bring not only fear and uncertainty, but also a tremendous financial burden.

Part of this funding goes to the ₱1.5-billion Cancer Assistance Fund (CAF), which provides financial assistance for eligible cancer-related care, including screening, diagnostics, treatment-related services, and medicines.

And yes — breast cancer is among the priority cancers covered by the program.

The CAF is accessed through designated hospitals and access sites, so if you or someone you love is undergoing cancer care, it is important to ask:

“Is this hospital a Cancer Assistance Fund access site?”

You can also ask about eligibility, required documents, and what assistance may be available for your specific situation.

As of July 2026, there are 36 designated CAF access sites nationwide.

Knowing that support exists is important. Knowing where to ask for it can make that support easier to reach.

At Shades of Pink Philippines, we believe that awareness should go beyond information — it should help people understand their options and feel less alone in navigating cancer.

🍎 Makakatulong ba ang macopa laban sa breast cancer?

May isang pag-aaral mula sa University of the Philippines Manila na nagsuri sa dahon ng macopa (Syzygium samarangense). Sa laboratoryo, natuklasan ng mga mananaliksik na ang concentrated extract mula sa dahon ay nagpakita ng potensyal laban sa breast cancer cells.

Ngunit mahalagang linawin ang isang bagay:

Hindi pa napatutunayan na ang pagkain ng macopa o pag-inom ng katas nito ay nakakaiwas o nakagagamot ng breast cancer.

Ang pag-aaral ay isinagawa sa laboratoryo gamit ang concentrated extract mula sa dahon, at hindi pa ito nasusubukan sa mga tao sa pamamagitan ng clinical trials.

Sa Shades of Pink Philippines, layunin naming magbahagi ng mga impormasyong nakabatay sa siyensya upang makatulong sa tamang kaalaman ng bawat Pilipino.

Habang patuloy ang pag-aaral ng mga siyentipiko, ang pinakamahalagang hakbang pa rin ay ang maagang pagtuklas, regular na screening, at agarang pagpapatingin sa doktor kung may mapansing pagbabago sa suso.

Understanding Mammograms

A mammogram is a simple breast X-ray — and it can detect changes years before a lump can even be felt.

Doctors often recommend regular screening starting around age 40, or earlier if you have risk factors or a family history. You don't need a symptom to qualify. Age alone can be reason enough.

Kaye Abad's recent story reminded many of us of this — she followed her doctor's advice, even without an obvious symptom, and it made a difference.

Don't wait for a symptom. Ask your doctor when you're due for a mammogram. Early conversations can change everything.
