🧑 Ponkan Has a Request 🧑

Hi, friends!

I'm feeling much better these days, but Doc Kevin says I still need to eat my special hepatic food while my little liver continues recovering.

The good news? I actually like it. 😸
The bad news? I'm almost out. 😿

Maybe someone would like to send me a bag?
πŸ‘‰ https://ph.shp.ee/jYAtbiah

Thank you to everyone who helped me when I wasn't feeling well. Because of your kindness, I'm back to doing important orange cat things: supervising cat room playtime, testing all the toys and donations, and reminding Tikoy to behave. 🧑

Love,
Ponkan 🍊

🧑 PONKAN Checkup Update β€” June 4 🧑

We have good news about our favorite Sharmaine meow!

Ponkan went in for his follow-up CBC and blood chemistry yesterday at PV Animal Shelter Tuktukan, and his results show he is moving in the right direction. πŸŽ‰

---
BLOODWORK RESULTS:

βœ… ALT (liver enzyme): dropped from 462 β†’ 71 (now normal!)
βœ… Bilirubin: back to normal
βœ… Platelets: recovered from critically low to normal range
πŸ“ˆ Red blood cell count and anemia markers also improved, though they remain below normal. Doc Kevin noted that the anemia may have been linked to the liver issue and is seen resolving alongside it, as he predicted.

For context: just over a week ago, Ponkan was rushed to the vet with jaundice and diagnosed with hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease) and anemia. He completed confinement, finished his first round of meds, and has been recovering at Ivory Wood under volunteer care.

The liver is one of the few organs that can repair itself, but it takes time. One week of treatment isn't enough to fully heal the damage, so Doc Kevin has extended his treatment for another month:

β€’ Hepatiale liver support, 30 days
β€’ Continued iron supplement for anemia
β€’ Rx hepatic diet (Monge Hepatic)
β€’ Follow-up CBC next week
β€’ Follow-up blood chemistry next month

Ponkan is back to his playful self. 🐈
But his recovery isn't over yet.

---
πŸ’Έ HOW YOU CAN STILL HELP

Your donations during his confinement covered his first round of diagnostics, confinement, medications, and Rx food, and we are so grateful.

Yesterday's follow-up alone came to β‚±5,300:
β€’ CBC: β‚±1,000
β€’ Blood chemistry: β‚±2,350
β€’ 30-day Hepatiale supply: β‚±1,950

With another month of treatment, prescription food, and follow-up bloodwork ahead, we still have a way to go.

If you'd like to help Ponkan finish his recovery strong, you can donate through our June Fundraising Drive. A portion of our goal is allocated directly to his ongoing treatment.

Seeing his numbers improve this much in just over a week is something all of us can celebrate together! Thank you all so much for making it possible. πŸ§‘πŸ™

🧑 PONKAN Recovery & Fundraising Update:
as of May 31 (11PM)🧑

It's been a few days since Ponkan was discharged from confinement and allowed to continue his recovery from hepatic lipidosis back in Ivory Wood.

The good news is that he continues to take his medications and is still eating his prescription hepatic food. However, recovery has been a bit of a mixed bag. His first day after discharge was very encouraging, but the past few days have reminded us that healing is rarely a straight line.

While there are times when he eats willingly, there have also been moments when his appetite dips and we've had to get creative to encourage him to eat enough to safely take his medications. He also continues to appear paler and quieter than we'd like, so we are keeping a close eye on him while continuing treatment.

For now, Ponkan remains on:
β€’ 2 liver medications
β€’ 1 supplement for anemia
β€’ Prescription hepatic diet (Monge Hepatic)

His next milestone will be his follow-up checkup on June 4, where another round of CBC and blood chemistry tests will help us determine whether his liver values and red blood cell count are improving and see if his treatment plan needs adjusting.

Despite everything, Ponkan's personality still shines. While he's quieter than usual and clearly not feeling 100%, he still makes his way to the scratch mat for a good stretch and scratch, insists on being included during playtime, even if he's currently sitting out the habulan and wrestling moments. And when Tikoy gets particularly noisy or rowdy, Ponkan still takes it upon himself to remind him to settle down. πŸ˜…

Those little moments remind us that our orange boy is still fighting to get better, and we're hopeful that with time, treatment, and a little more luck, he'll start feeling more like himself again.🀞

πŸ’Έ Fundraising Update

As of today (May 31), Ponkan's confirmed medical and recovery expenses (including his upcoming June 4 blood tests) total β‚±13,283.00.

Thanks to your generosity, we have received β‚±11,000.00 in donations so far, leaving a current funding gap of β‚±2,283.00. Onti nalang!

However, this is likely not the end of Ponkan's treatment journey. Additional expenses are expected for prescription hepatic food, continued medications, and any further diagnostics or treatment that may be recommended based on his follow-up bloodwork results.

We appreciate everyone who has donated, shared our posts, checked in on Ponkan, and cheered him on from afar. We are still not in the clear, but we're taking things one day at a time and hoping for steadier progress and more good news in the days ahead.

If you'd like to help support Ponkan's continued recovery, any contribution will be greatly appreciated. 🧑

🍊 PONKAN Update: He's Home! 🍊

After 2 days of confinement to immediately treat his hepatic lipidosis, our lucky little orange boy has been discharged and is officially back home in Ivory Wood!🧑

The biggest goal during confinement was getting Ponkan to eat his prescription hepatic food on his own, and he did it! That's what got him cleared for discharge today. We're so relieved to have him back, even if his recovery journey isn't over yet.

For the next 7 days, Ponkan continues treatment with:
β€’ 2 liver medications
β€’ 1 supplement for anemia
β€’ Prescription hepatic diet

He's also scheduled for a follow-up on June 4, with another round of bloodwork to check if his liver values and red blood cell count are improving.

His medications, hepatic diet, and follow-up tests will continue to add to his expenses, so any additional support is still very much appreciated. In-kind donations of the Monge Hepatic Dry Food he likes are especially welcome! πŸ™

A donation report will be posted soon once we've tallied everything up. We're a small volunteer group doing our best, so please bear with us. We just wanted to share this happy news asap! 😊

Thank you to everyone who donated, shared, and checked in on Ponkan. You helped us act fast when it mattered most. 🧑🍊

⚠️ Medical Update: PONKAN ⚠️

You might remember Ponkan, found around Chinese New Year like Tikoy, both named after lucky and auspicious treats.

Unfortunately, Ponkan has been going through a streak of bad luck lately. 😭
He recently recovered from a urinary issue (struvite crystals), and we thought all is well, but his appetite suddenly declined last week despite our efforts to coax him to eat more. And yesterday, he began showing visible signs of jaundice despite getting extra care in our cat room.

Hepatic lipidosis is one of the most insidious conditions in cats. It can develop within days of reduced appetite, often with no obvious symptoms until jaundice appears. Even with regular monitoring, it can progress quickly and silently.

We were able to get him to eat a small amount yesterday, and his color already looked more normal today. But we still brought him to PV Animal Shelter, Tuktukan for diagnostics and confinement.

πŸ“‹ DIAGNOSTICS:
Blood test confirmed elevated ALT/liver values and anemia. The anemia may be connected to the liver issue and could resolve with treatment. But if liver values normalize and anemia persists, further testing may be needed.

πŸ’‰ TREATMENT PLAN:
β€’ 2–3 days confinement
β€’ IV fluids
β€’ Medications
β€’ Prescription hepatic diet
β€’ Assisted feeding and appetite support

The main goal is getting Ponkan eating properly on his own again. Cats who stop eating can decline very quickly, so restoring his appetite is critical to his recovery.

πŸ’Έ CURRENT EXPENSES: β‚±8,000
β€’ CBC + blood chemistry
β€’ 2-day confinement
β€’ IV set and medical supplies
β€’ Medications

✨ Php 500 Consultation Fee was thankfully waived! Many thanks to PV Animal Shelter Tuktukan. πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Possible additional expenses:
β€’ Hepatic prescription food
β€’ Confinement extension if needed
β€’ Additional diagnostics or medications

Any donation, no matter how small, will greatly help:
πŸ”΄ BPI: 9969369718 (M* A***** R** M.)
πŸ”΅ GCash: 0916 638 7062 (M* A***** R** M.)

🏠 We're also looking for a patient temporary foster to help monitor and care for Ponkan during recovery once discharged. He may do better in a home setup and unfortunately all our volunteers are currently at capacity. If you can help, please send us a message and we'll guide you every step of the way.

We're praying he responds well over the next few days, regains his appetite, and comes home soon. 🧑

Thank you, as always, to everyone who supports, donates, shares, fosters, and cares about our community cats. Your support is what allows cats like Ponkan to get the urgent care they need. πŸ™

A few faces from today’s feeding rounds and in-kind donations received this month πŸ±πŸ’›

Daily colony care means making sure every cat gets fed, checked on, and greeted by familiar humans every day. It may look simple, but this routine is only possible because of the support we receive from the community. 🐾

THANK YOU to everyone who has donated so far this May: from funds and supplies to food and even electric fans for the cats!πŸ’–

✨May fundraising update✨
www.facebook.com/share/p/18NM6hfUg1/

We’re now at β‚±7.3k out of our β‚±10k fundraising goal, with just β‚±2.7k left to go before month-end. Onti nalang and our mimings are fully covered for May with a little extra to start our Annual 4in1 Vax fund! πŸ’›

Thank you again for all your support! The Ivory Wood community cats are truly blessed 😻
