Ties for Lives

TAGOLOAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL, Tagoloan — On July 18, 2025, at 3:30 in the afternoon, senior scouts from Tagoloan, accompanied by alumni Sir Dale Sanchez, Sir Earl Santino Pareja, Sir Frances Gimarangan, and members of the Tagoloan Rover Circle, successfully conducted their first activity on knot tying at the school's covered court.

Knot tying is a fundamental skill in basic survival preparedness, offering numerous practical applications in various emergencies. The importance of knot tying extends beyond the mere act of joining two pieces of rope.

Mastering knot tying requires practice and patience, as well as an investment in your preparedness and survival skills. It's not a simple matter of memorizing knot patterns; it involves developing a feel for the material and understanding how tension and friction interact to create a secure fastening.

This knowledge empowers you to construct shelters, secure gear, create makeshift tools, and perform essential rescue tasks; all while relying on readily available sources. Therefore, mastering fundamental knots is essential for anyone aiming to improve their survival skills.

TNHS's senior, alumni, and rover scouts teach them the essential knots that are truly important in preparedness and survival skills, including bowline, square knot, figure-eight knot, fisherman's knot, clove hitch, and many more. The knots we tie today are not just knots of rope, but knots of friendship and skill, strengthening the bonds of our community.

“ A Scout is resourceful and helpful. He uses his skills to serve others. ”

— Lord Baden-Powell
