'IT ALWAYS TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD'

Student leader Alyana Hontanar emphasized that multiple factors must be considered when addressing the risks that may lead young learners to commit crimes.

Hontanar was among the resource persons invited by the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality during its hearing on the fatal school shooting in Tacloban on June 22, 2026.

"It always takes a village to raise a child. Pero, the child who is not embraced by the village with burn it down to feel its warmth," she stated during the hearing on Thursday.

Hontanar added that there are various factors in society that may affect a child's thinking, and that institutions must look at it in a forward-looking manner, rather than tying it down to a single cause.
