Last Sunday, April 18, the CARE Unit once again showed that service is strongest when compassion meets readiness. As runners filled the roads for Kagitingan Run 2026, the team quietly took their positions steady, alert, and prepared for whatever the day would bring.

From the first wave of participants at dawn to the final stride at the finish line, the CARE Unit delivered continuous medical support across the event. Responders checked on exhausted runners, provided immediate assistance when needed, and made sure every participant felt safe and supported throughout the race.

This deployment was superheaded by Sir Mark Munel Torralba, RN and Dr. Pearl Diane Lopez, whose leadership kept the team coordinated, responsive, and confident. Their guidance ensured that every movement big or small was rooted in care and professionalism.

On a day dedicated to honoring courage, the CARE Unit embodied its own form of kagitingan: serving the community with heart, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to safety.

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆-𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀

On March 16 and 17, 2026 (Monday and Tuesday), the CARE Unit conducted a meaningful two-day Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR Training for the 1st Year Mechanical Engineering students—organized as one full training day per batch to ensure focused learning and hands-on practice. Guided by Sir Mark Munel Torralba, RN, the sessions became an eye-opening introduction to the importance of preparedness and compassionate response during emergencies.

Each morning session built the foundation. Students learned why quick action matters, how first aid can change an outcome, and what responsible decision-making looks like in real-life situations. It wasn’t just about memorizing steps—it was about understanding the weight of these skills and gaining confidence to act.

In the afternoons, learning turned into action. Through return demonstrations, students practiced CPR techniques, assessed simulated emergency scenarios, and showed impressive focus for first-year trainees. The smaller batch setup allowed everyone to be guided closely, making their progress even more visible.

𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲-𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀

Last March 6, 2026 (Friday), the CARE Unit successfully conducted its Basic Life Support (BLS) and CPR Training for the 4th Year Mechanical Engineering students. The session was led with expertise and guidance by Sir Mark Munel Torralba, RN, who ensured that each participant understood both the theory and proper ex*****on of life-saving procedures.

The day began with a comprehensive morning seminar discussion, where students learned the principles of first aid, the importance of an immediate response during emergencies, and the correct steps in performing CPR. The session aimed to give them not just information, but a deeper appreciation of how timely action can save a life.

In the afternoon, students participated in a return demonstration, allowing them to apply everything they learned. This evaluation tested their skills, accuracy, and readiness—from proper chest compressions to assessing emergency situations. Seeing the students confidently perform life-saving techniques showed how much they had absorbed and how committed they were to learning.

To every participant: your discipline, eagerness, and willingness to master these essential skills reflect what it means to be not only engineers, but responsible members of the community. You showed that saving a life is a universal duty, one that goes beyond any profession.

The mission continues! On February 26, the 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭 conducted the second day of 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝑨𝒊𝒅 (𝑺𝑭𝑨) 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑩𝑳𝑺-𝑪𝑷𝑹 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 for 𝑩𝑺𝑪𝒑𝑬 𝑩𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 2. Under the guidance of our adviser, 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐛𝐚, 𝐑𝐍, our future engineers traded their laptops for manikins to master the art of saving lives.

From chest compressions to wound care, Batch 2 showed up with focus and determination. We’re proud to see the BSCpE community taking safety seriously!

On February 25, the 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭 took a step forward in inclusive emergency response with our training: "𝑺𝒂𝒇𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅: 𝑨 𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓-𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑨𝒑𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝒕𝒐 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝑨𝒊𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑬𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒚 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈."

Led by our adviser, 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐛𝐚, 𝐑𝐍, we explored how to provide effective, respectful, and gender-sensitive care during emergencies. Because when it comes to saving lives, understanding the diverse needs of our community makes us better, more compassionate responders. 🤝✨

On February 24, the 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭 kicked off 𝑩𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉 1 of our 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝑨𝒊𝒅 (𝑺𝑭𝑨) 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑩𝑳𝑺-𝑪𝑷𝑹 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 for the 𝑩𝑺𝑪𝒑𝑬 3𝒓𝒅 𝒚𝒆𝒂𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔. Led by our dedicated adviser, 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐌𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐛𝐚, 𝐑𝐍, the session focused on turning classroom knowledge into real-world readiness.

From mastering chest compressions to handling emergency scenarios, these future engineers are now one step closer to being certified lifesavers.

On February 23, 𝑪𝑨𝑹𝑬 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒕 family came together for a life-saving cause with the 𝙂𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙤𝙧 𝘾𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙤 𝙂𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙨 𝙈𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙈𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 (𝙂𝘾𝙂𝙈𝙈𝘾) and 𝙍𝙃𝙐 𝘿𝙖𝙤, we successfully held our bloodletting activity to support those in need of a second chance at life.

A huge thank you to our brave donors and the dedicated medical team from GCGMMC and Health Workers from RHU Dao for making this event possible. Every drop counts, and your generosity ensures that our community stays strong and healthy.

It was a privilege for our CARE Unit members to join our dedicated nurses, Ma’am Jairene Mae Cajes, RN, and Mark Munel Torralba, RN, at the 1st GCGMMC Postgraduate Course: 'Emergency Medicine Fundamentals: Early Care and Safe Referrals.'

Last February 13, the 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭 spearheaded the 𝐇𝐈𝐕 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 to promote proactive health on campus. We were honored to host 𝙈𝙨. 𝙍𝙚𝙮𝙣 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙣 from Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital, whose expert insights provided our students with vital education and a safe space for dialogue.

The CARE Unit Medics were out in full force last week, providing medical standby for the SSG Campus Days and the high-intensity TABOlympics led by CSO. The CARE Unit was on the scene and ready for action.
