🚨 OFFICIAL CITY GOVERNMENT UPDATE:
The City Government of Tagbilaran wants the public to know this immediately: THERE IS CURRENTLY NO VERIFIED OR CREDIBLE THREAT against Mansasa National High School, Tagbilaran City College, or any other school in Tagbilaran City.
Following reports of a social media post alleging a possible attack on our schools, I immediately directed the Tagbilaran City Police Station, under the leadership of PLTCOL Joey Mallare Bicoy, to conduct a full investigation in coordination with DepEd, school officials, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), and other concerned agencies.
The investigation confirmed that the circulating screenshot was shared by a 15-year-old Grade 10 student of Mansasa National High School. The student voluntarily appeared before authorities with his guardian and explained that he merely shared a screenshot of a Facebook post he saw on his newsfeed to inform his classmates.
The investigation found NO evidence that the student created the original post or intended to cause fear or public alarm.
Authorities also confirmed that the original Facebook account that uploaded the threat has not yet been identified because it was not captured in the screenshot.
WE WILL NOT TAKE THIS MATTER LIGHTLY.
TANANG PWERSA SA CITY GOVERNMENT NAKATUTOK ANI NGA REPORT.
I have directed the City PNP led by Chief Joey Bicoy to identify the original Facebook account through digital forensic investigation, preserve all electronic evidence, trace the uploader’s digital footprint through lawful processes, and determine whether sufficient evidence exists to file criminal charges or any other applicable law, against the individual responsible for spreading false information that caused fear and public alarm.
At the same time, the City Government, together with the Philippine National Police, DepEd, and our partner agencies, has intensified security measures through increased police visibility in schools, continuous coordination with school administrators and barangay officials, and sustained monitoring to ensure the safety of every student, teacher, and school personnel.
⚠️ Let this also be a reminder to everyone: Before sharing alarming posts on social media, verify the information first. Even when done with good intentions, the spread of unverified information can create unnecessary fear, disrupt classes, and divert government resources away from genuine emergencies.
We will continue to keep the public informed as verified information becomes available. The safety and security of every Tagbilaranon will always remain our highest priority. 💚
