On March 22, 2026, in celebration of World Water Day with the theme “Water and Gender: Where water flows, equality grows,” various activities were conducted to promote environmental sustainability and highlight the importance of inclusive and equitable water resource management.

In compliance with Memorandum No. 2026-0319 issued by the Office of the Governor of the Provincial Government of Bohol, all City and Municipal Mayors were enjoined to actively support and participate in the said celebration.

In response, the municipalities of Ubay, Loboc, Dauis, Danao, and Clarin carried out several community-based initiatives. These included river clean-up drives, where local government personnel, community members, and volunteers worked together to remove waste and restore the cleanliness and natural flow of waterways. Mangrove planting activities were also conducted in designated coastal areas to strengthen shoreline protection, enhance marine ecosystems, and contribute to climate change mitigation efforts.

The collective participation of these municipalities reflects their strong commitment to the directive of the Provincial Government, as well as their shared responsibility in safeguarding water resources. Moreover, these activities reinforced the importance of gender-inclusive participation in environmental programs, ensuring that both women and men play active roles in fostering sustainable and resilient communities.

𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐨𝐡𝐨𝐥’𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞

From March 24 to 26, the Water Resources Management Technical Staff under the leadership of Forester Orman B. Hilot conducted a visitation from different LGU’s of Bohol in order to gather and obtain the Inventory of Surface and Underground Freshwater Sources.

This activity will help identify the water sources in different LGU’s including its location, water quality, water consumption, improvements, supports sustainable management, and reliability of water supply. It is essential towards different agencies and residents from Bohol.

The data gathered from LGUs will also contribute for future water management in the province.

From March 23 to 27, 2026, the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO), through its Coastal Resource Management (CRM) Division, actively participated in the conduct of the Participatory Coastal Resource Assessment (PCRA) in the Municipality of Anda, Bohol. The activity was undertaken as a key component in support of the Coastal Resource Management (CRM) Plan Formulation of the municipality.

The activity was conducted in collaboration with partner agencies and institutions, including DENR CENRO–Tagbilaran, DENR CENRO–Talibon, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Bohol Island State University (BISU) Candijay Campus, CLEC 6, Peace Corps volunteers, volunteers from Holy Name University (HNU), and the Local Government Unit of Anda through its Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO).

Throughout the five-day activity, the team conducted Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with local stakeholders to gather socio-environmental information, alongside field assessments of coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangrove ecosystems. These assessments aimed to evaluate the current condition of coastal and marine resources and identify key environmental issues affecting the area.

The data and findings generated from the PCRA will serve as a vital baseline in the formulation of the municipality’s CRM Plan, guiding evidence-based strategies and interventions for the sustainable management, protection, and conservation of Anda’s coastal and marine ecosystems.

On March 26, 2026, the Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), through the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO), successfully conducted a technical orientation on Pagatpat propagation in response to the request of the Alumar Seaweeds Farmers Association (ASFA) Inc. of Barangay Alumar, Getafe, Bohol, held at the BPEMO-Marcelo Mangrove Nursery in Marcelo, Mabini, Bohol.

The association, which has been actively planting Bakhaw mangrove species since 2018, aims to further strengthen its contribution to the preservation and conservation of mangrove forests in their barangay. In line with their Mangrove Forest Rehabilitation Program for 2026, the group sought technical guidance on the proper germination of Pagatpat seedlings.

A presentation on the importance of mangroves and the threats affecting mangrove ecosystems was conducted to deepen the participants’ understanding of the value of mangrove forests. This was followed by a demonstration on the proper propagation and germination of quality Pagatpat seedlings, where BPEMO personnel provided practical guidance and techniques to ensure successful seedling production.

The activity was successfully conducted and well received by the members of the association, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to properly implement their mangrove planting project for this year.

The Coastal Resource Management Division of the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO) facilitated the Reorganization of the Marine Protected Area (MPA) Management Council and the Formulation of the MPA Strategic Plan for Badiang MPA in Anda, Bohol on March 18-19, 2026.

The activity was participated in by the Barangay Council of Barangay Badiang and the Badiang Fisherfolk Association (BAFIAS).

The activity aimed to organize the MPA managers and develop a strategic plan to guide their activities and ensure effective management of Badiang MPA.

With the active participation of the community, this initiative strengthens local stewardship and sets a clear path for protecting and sustainably managing the rich marine resources of Badiang.

On March 12, 2026, the divers from the Provincial Government of Bohol through Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO) and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR CENRO) Talibon, conducted an annual underwater biophysical assessment and monitoring of Giant Clams (Tridacna gigas) in Hambongan Marine Protected Area (MPA), Inabanga, Bohol.

This activity was supported and assisted by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Inabanga, Bohol and the Philippine National Police (PNP)- Inabanga. The activity aims to determine the conditions of the coral reef areas, fish and macro invertebrates biodiversity, and monitor the growth and health conditions of the Giant Clams that were seeded in the marine sanctuary since 2013.

On March 25, 2026, the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO), through the Forest Resource Management Division, conducted an orientation on BPEMO Programs and Projects at the FTC Building, BISU–Bilar Campus for incoming On-the-Job Trainees (OJT).

The orientation aimed to introduce the students to the various environmental programs and projects implemented by BPEMO and its partner agencies.

During the session, representatives from the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Offices (MENRO) of Ubay, Guindulman, Jagna, and Valencia also presented their respective programs and projects on environmental management and conservation.

The activity gave the trainees a clear overview of the agencies’ mandates, programs, and projects while helping them understand the tasks they may be involved in during their training.

On March 19, 2026, a training on water conservation and solid waste management was successfully conducted at the Children’s Palace, Loboc Tourism, Villaflor, Loboc. The activity was facilitated by Forester Orman B. Hilot, Head of Water Resources Management, together with Leonilo Lafuente, Head of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Division.

The training was organized as part of the Greening DRR Project of the Philippine Red Cross Bohol Chapter. It aimed to raise environmental awareness and promote sustainable practices among local communities. Participants included barangay officials, community leaders, and residents from Barangay Tigbao, Loboc, and Barangay Lobgob, Sevilla.

The session focused on water conservation, proper waste segregation, strategies to reduce waste, and the importance of community participation in protecting the environment. Through discussions and interactive activities, participants gained practical knowledge on conserving water resources and managing solid waste effectively.

The training highlighted the power of collective action in reducing environmental risks and supporting disaster risk reduction efforts. By equipping participants with practical skills and strategies, the activity strengthened their capacity to promote sustainability and resilience within their communities.

On March 18–19, 2026, the Provincial Government of Bohol, through the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Bohol Provincial Tourism Office (BPTO), Bohol Economic Development and Investment Promotion Office (BEDIPO), and Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO), participated in the Validation Workshop on the Climate Change and Disaster Risk (CCDR) Assessment of the Balicasag Island Tourism System.

The workshop was also attended by representatives from national government agencies, including DENR–PENRO, DENR–CENRO, DILG, PAG-ASA, Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) Poblacion, Panglao, and the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Panglao. The activity was facilitated by Alinea Philippines under the GOV-CDR Project.

The primary objective of the workshop was to present and validate the results of the Climate Change and Disaster Risk Assessment conducted on January 21–23, 2026. It also aimed to review, refine, and enhance the identified adaptation options to ensure their relevance and effectiveness in addressing climate and disaster risks in the Balicasag Island tourism system.

On March 11, 2026, the Coastal Resource Management Division of the Bohol Provincial Environment Management Office (BPEMO) joined and facilitated a Focus Group Discussion in the Municipality of Jagna together with DENR CENRO Tagbilaran. The activity was led by the Local Government Unit of Jagna.

Participants came from the barangay council, fisherfolk associations, fish vendors, private sector, and other stakeholders from the coastal barangays of Can-upao, Bunga Mar, and Looc.

The discussion is part of the ongoing Participatory Coastal Resource Assessment of the municipality. Through the FGD, participants were able to share their actual experiences, challenges, and observations about their coastal areas. It also opened conversations on common concerns such as fishing practices, resource use, and changes they have noticed over time.

The information gathered during the activity will be used as part of the basis in updating Jagna’s Coastal Resource Management Plan.

This activity was supported and assisted by the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Talibon, Bohol. The activity aims to determine the conditions of the coral reef areas, fish and macro invertebrates biodiversity, and monitor the growth and health conditions of the Giant Clams that were seeded in the marine sanctuary since 2013.

Underwater Biophysical Assessment and Monitoring to Marine Protected Areas is one of the activities that supports the different projects of Governor Erico Aristotle C. Aumentado and Vice Governor Pacifico Nicanor S. Besas Jr. in conserving and protecting our marine resources.
