4 October 2026 - WORLD ANIMAL DAY 🐾

Today, we make a wish.

For the whales, dolphins, turtles, and every life beneath the sea...may your oceans remain wild, clean, and free.

For the animals in captivity... may you know gentleness, dignity, and care.

For the animals used for entertainment and tourism...may people learn to admire you without exploiting you.

For the wildlife losing their forests, rivers, and homes...may there always be a place where you can simply belong.

For the animals on our streets...may you find food, safety, kindness, and communities that choose compassion over cruelty.

For the animals waiting in shelters...may someone see beyond your past, your age, your scars, your breed, and choose you.

For the animals living in homes...may you never be abandoned when you grow old, become sick, or become difficult to care for.

For farm animals and working animals...may your lives be treated with compassion, respect, and dignity.

For every animal who has suffered because of human hands...we are sorry.

Sorry for the fear we caused. For the homes we destroyed. For the lives we used, ignored, abandoned, and harmed. And for humanity, we make one more wish:

"May our hands protect more than they hurt.”

Happy World Animal Day.🐾

ADOPTION

Closer to Home 🩵

Skinny’s journey continues and she is closer to home. ✈️🇹🇼

This morning, we sent off Skinny and her family from Bohol to Cebu City. The second leg of her journey home.

They will stay in Cebu until October 4 to complete Skinny’s international veterinary clearance and export permit, then on October 5, they fly home to Taiwan.

Before leaving, Skinny’s family also surprised us with a very generous donation for the shelter. Our deepest thanks to Natasha for opening their hearts and home to this little one. We know Skinny will be loved and pampered. From the streets to a beautiful life.

Safe travels, little Skinny and family. One more step closer to home.

Nothing beats a soft purr of comfort, love and family. Tiny paws. Small steps. Big dreams.

Skinny’s beautiful second chance is slowly unfolding. Three days ago her family arrived in Bohol all the way from Taiwan. They came to pick up their little girl and will begin the journey home with her.

How quickly time flies. It feels like only yesterday that Skinny was fighting her way through feline panleukopenia, her tiny body holding on while we hoped and waited for better days.

On October 3, Skinny and her family will leave Bohol for Cebu as they begin the next part of their journey to Taiwan

For now, we are simply watching this beautiful second chance unfold. One little step, one journey, one milestone at a time.

From fighting to survive to having a family fly across the sea to bring her home.

Sometimes, a second chance can take you farther than you ever imagined. 🩵🍀🧡

Meet The Brindles 🤎🐾

Striped, swirled, speckled and beautifully homegrown. Meet some of our Brindle bunch looking for families of their own.

No two coats are quite the same. Some have bold tiger stripes, some have only little brindle whispers, and some look like somebody mixed all the colors and forgot to stop.😄

But underneath those beautiful coats are simply good dogs waiting for the ordinary things that mean everything. A safe home, a family to belong to, and someone who will choose them for life.

They may not sit still long enough for a proper photograph, believe us, we tried😆 but perhaps one of these wiggly faces will make you stop scrolling.

Because somewhere among The Brindles might be your best friend and family who has been waiting for you.

Meet our homegrown treasures, our lovely Aspins. 🇵🇭

Born on our own soil, raised in our communities, and woven into Filipino culture and everyday life. Resilient, clever, loyal, affectionate, smart. Each one carries a little bit of home.

They may not come with fancy breed but they come with character, stories, and so much love to give.

And while puppies often catch the eye first, older and senior dogs are too often overlooked. They may move a little slower, sleep a little longer, carry a few more years in their story but they still have so much love, companionship, and quiet joy to give.

Blessings come in many forms.🧡

Yesterday, the shelter was blessed with three days’ worth of food for our residents.

Our sincerest thanks to Steve and Sheila for dropping by, spending time with the pack, and generously providing their food for the next three days.

Last year, they rescued a dog who sadly passed away but they never forgot their promise to continue helping animals in need.

Thank you, Steve and Sheila, for remembering and for sharing your kindness with our residents.

Sometimes, a promise made for one beloved dog continues to bring love to many others.

While other parts of the country and the world are experiencing flooding, we on the other hand is experiencing extreme hot weather and dry spell. Temperature is 33⁰c and feels like 39⁰c.

We have been receiving reports of animals especially dogs suffering from heatstroke and some have passed away.

Here are some reminders ~

🌳naa silay landong ug lugar nga mahanginan ug kasilongan.

🐾 palihug ayaw i-walk sa init kaayong semento o kalsada. Late afternoon to evening, the ground is still very hot. Kung init para nato mas init para sa mga animals.

🚗 ug ayaw gyud biya-i sulod sa sakyanan and inyong pets.

Sa karong init nga panahon, magbinantayon ta sa heatstroke ug dehydration.

Wildlife belongs in the wild. 🦜

BARK has received numerous reports concerning social media posts showing the trapping and capture of native birds, including Kulasisi or Philippine Hanging Parrots and Alimukon.

We have forwarded the information and available documentation to the proper authorities and are coordinating with DENR-CENRO, the concerned LGU, and law enforcement for appropriate investigation and action.

Republic Act No. 9147, or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, protects our wildlife from unlawful collection, hunting, possession, killing and trade. When prohibited acts are committed through social media or other information and communications technologies, relevant provisions of the Cybercrime Prevention Act may also apply.

But beyond the law, there is something important for all of us to remember:

A bird taken from the wild is not just one bird removed from a tree. Wildlife has a place and a role in the ecosystem we all share.

Please do not buy captured wildlife or encourage pages that promote their capture or trade. Buying creates demand, and demand encourages more animals to be taken from the wild.

If you encounter suspected wildlife hunting, trapping, possession or trade, preserve the information and report it directly to DENR or the appropriate local authorities.

If you have relevant information regarding this particular case, you may also send BARK a private message.

Let us allow our native birds to remain where they belong free, in the wild. 🌿🦜

Ondoi, our little hero goes home.🩵

Kuya Noynoy is Ondoi's favorite human at the shelter. Today, they get to spend a little more time together before saying goodbye.

Our brave little Badoi-doi is leaving the shelter because love is waiting for him outside our gates. 🏡

We wish you a good life, little one. May you grow up knowing kindness, safety, and just how deeply you are loved.🍀
