Like waves that bind islands together, our seas are the lifelines that connect stories, cultures, and communities across the archipelago. This September, the National Museum of the Philippines Bohol sails with the nation in celebrating the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANAMo), declared under Proclamation No. 316, s. 2017.
Guided by this yearโs theme, โNagkahiusang Kapuluan, Kalma nga Kadagatanโ, the celebration reminds us of our shared duty to protect the tranquility and security of our seasโour nationโs most vital bridge of unity.
To mark the occasion, proudly presents โPaglawig: The Boholano Way of Lifeโ, an exhibition that mirrors the Boholanosโ timeless journey across the currents of history.
Bohol, the 10th largest island of the Philippine archipelago, is shaped by its distinct geographyโrolling uplands in the north and rugged southern coasts carved by the sea. Within this environment, generations of Boholanos have relied on maritime traditions for subsistence, livelihood, and cultural expression.
Through artifacts and narratives, the exhibition traces how Boholanos have continuously adapted to their marine environmentโfrom prehistoric lifeways to contemporary practices. It reveals how technology, culture, and community have evolved in constant dialogue with the sea and neighboring islands.
โ Embark on this journey with us. Visit the exhibition at the second floor of the museum, and celebrate with us the enduring bond between our people and our seas.
