The DLSU-D Conservation Studio successfully presented to the public, for a limited viewing, the 18th Century Buddhist Painting Restoration Project of the DLSU-D Center for Heritage Conservation, Wednesday, December 10, 2025, 3:00β6:00 PM.
Three significant Buddhist paintings were restored by Bhutanese monk-scholars: Lopen Namgay Tenzin and Lopen Sonam Tenzin, under the supervision of Master Conservator Eddie Jose.
This special exhibition features:
β’ Sakyamuni Buddha, highlighting his transformative journey as Siddhartha
β’ The First and Second Karmapa from the 11th century, reflecting the profound lineage of the Kagyu tradition
β’ Dorje DrolΓΆd, one of the eight fierce and protective manifestations of Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche)
These restored thangkas offer a rare opportunity to encounter sacred art, history, and spiritual lineageβbrought back to life through patient, meticulous conservation.
As their three-month stay at DLSU-D concludes on December 12, 2025, these restored thangkas will be brought back to Bhutan by the monk-scholars, continuing their journey home to their spiritual community.
We are deeply grateful to dear friends, students and relatives of Sir Eddie Jose , the DLSU-D administrators, the CPAR and Arts & Design Track students from DLSU-D Basic Education, the Buddhist Studies students from Guang Ming CollegeβCavite, and our guests from Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies, as well as the reinas from the Elegante Runway Fashion Show, for visiting and appreciating this exhibition.
