Gearing Biologists Towards the Professional World! ๐Ÿ”ฌโœจ

The BS Biology Practicum Program Orientation, held on February 7, 2026, at the HRDC Gymnasium of Leyte Normal University, was led by Prof. Facundo Rey M. Ladiao, Program Coordinator of BS Biology. It was a meaningful day where parents were guided through the next steps of the students' academic journey, with open discussions, clear expectations, and shared support.

The session highlighted what the program is all about, its specializations in Biotechnology, Medical Biology, and Environmental Biology, and the exciting opportunities waiting after graduation. Parents also learned about the practicum and internship process, including partner agencies and the expectations students must meet to thrive in real-world experiences.

More than just an orientation, it became a space for conversation, encouragement, and collaboration. Parents were invited to be active partners in strengthening the Biology Program and inspiring the next generation of scientists.

Together, weโ€™re building a community rooted in growth, passion, and purpose. Thank you to all of our parents for your trust, time, and unwavering support. This journey is stronger because of you. โœจ๐Ÿซฐ

Batch 2 | Ready. Be Trained. Save lives.

4th Year BS Biology Basic Life Support Training 2026 In Partnership with Tacloban City Rescue Unit

The 4th Year BS Biology Students honed their lifesaving skills through Basic Life Support (BLS) Training with the help of Tacloban Rescue Unit (TACRU) as part of their pre-deployment events. The first batch was held last January 19, 20, and 21 at PMF 25 which was composed of Biotechnology and Medical Biology Students. This training serves as preparation for their upcoming internship, equipping them with essential emergency response knowledge, practical skills, and confidence needed in real-life clinical and community settings.

Through hands-on demonstrations, simulations, and guidance from TACRU, the 4th-year Biology students developed essential skills and competence in patient assessment and appropriate emergency response.

The training incorporated theoretical discussions to enhance understanding of key concepts, bandaging for proper wound management, CPR for life-saving interventions, patient carries for safe and effective transport, and patient interaction to promote clear communication and compassionate care. These competencies culminated in a simulation exercise that emphasized teamwork and fostered the development of critical thinking and decision-making skills under emergency scenarios.

These lyrics perfectly encapsulate the spirit of the BS Biology Practicum Case Presentation and Culminating Activity held at Leyte Normal University's Ballroom Hall on May 23, 2025. The day marked the culmination of a significant chapter in the Batch 2025's academic journey โ€“ a chapter filled with rigorous study and practical experience. Yet, as the ceremony unfolded, it was clear that this was not an end, but a beginning.

A procession of 4th Year BS Biology interns marked the beginning, led by esteemed science faculty members bearing the Biology emblems of each specialization โ€“ the Sablay for Biotechnology, Laurel for Environmental Biology, and Caduceus for Medical Biology. Dr. Las Johnsen B. Caluza, the Internship Supervisor, then delivered his inspiring opening remarks, setting the stage for the day's events.

Fourteen captivating case study presentations followed, each meticulously crafted and critically evaluated by a panel of experts: Mr. Gerald D. Demasilan (TACRU), Ms. Juris Magna A. Gempis (City-ENRO), Mr. Romelo T. Anade (City-Agriculture), Mr. Cedric John N. Maluenda, Ms. Jea M. Vesera, and Ms. Ma. Dayanarra T. Alonso. The interns' dedication and hard work shone through, showcasing their acquired knowledge and skills.

This was followed by five poignant testimonies from interns, offering heartfelt reflections on their internship journeys and the invaluable lessons learned within their respective agencies. Their words resonated deeply, highlighting the transformative power of practical experience.

Another highlight was Professor Myra A. Abayon's inspirational message, which resonated deeply, reminding everyone of life's true meaning and urging students to embrace their potential and celebrate their accomplishments. Her words served as a powerful catalyst for self-belief and future endeavors.

The culmination of the event was also a joyous awarding ceremony. Each intern received a certificate of proficiency in their specialization, a testament to their hard work and dedication. Adding to the celebration, twelve outstanding students were recognized with the prestigious Charles Darwin Award, a further testament to their exceptional achievements. The competition for best case studies was also fierce, with Bardelosa et al. securing third place, Baluran et al. taking second, and Ms. Honnah Yhobel Q. Romandi's solo presentation earning the highest recognition.

The event concluded with a touching video journey chronicled the Batch 2025's experience, which was a poignant reminder of their shared journey and a fitting conclusion to a memorable day. The event served not only as a celebration of academic achievement but also as a testament to the growth, resilience, and bright futures of these aspiring biologists.
