There is no scientific evidence that physical trauma to the breast — from a seatbelt, a fall, getting hit on the breast, or sports — causes cancer to develop. What can happen after an injury is a benign lump called fat necrosis, which is harmless but can look or feel like a tumor. It does not automatically cause cancer.

However, if you notice a lump that doesn't go away after a few weeks, get it checked. Not because it's cancer, but because it's always better to know for sure.
