Project Tropagules: Growing Roots, Building Connections ๐๐ฑ
Yesterday, April 4, the Rotaract Club of Central Surigao successfully conducted Project Tropagules, a sub-project under Earth2Youth Initiative, at Brgy. Nabago, in collaboration with our friendship club, the Rotaract Club of Cebu Fuente - University of the Visayas Chapter , and our partner, JJC Surigao Ironwood .
Mangrove propagules were successfully planted at an abandoned fishpond along the NabagoโCabongbongan Mangal Forest, turning a once-idle space into a growing symbol of hope, resilience, and environmental action. ๐ฟ
The activity was led by GCP Ron (RACCS) and GCVP Sher (RACCF-UV), with the presence of ADRR John Joseph Soques of the Surigao del Norte Council. Participants were oriented on the significance of mangrove conservation through Project MARECON, which Pres. Ron has been actively involved in since 2021. Proper planting techniques were also demonstrated by NACAMDA Chairperson Marcelo Cabasa, ensuring that every propagule planted carries a stronger chance of survival.
Beyond the planting activity, the fellowship continued as the team experienced a refreshing sea-bond at the in-sea cottage of Hon. Alberto Abaa, followed by a visit to Katunggan Resto Park, where participants appreciated the beauty of the mangrove ecosystem through its hanging bridge and boardwalk. ๐
This initiative would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our mother club, the Rotary Club of Central Surigao, our partners from Surigao del Norte State University โ Project MARECON led by Dr. Louella S. Degamon, the Nabago-Cabongbongan Mangrove Dwellers Association (NACAMDA), and the BLGU Nabago headed by Hon. Alberto Abaa.
Together, we planted more than mangrovesโwe planted hope, partnership, and a shared commitment to protect our environment. ๐
