Ready to grow change from the ground up?

𝙎𝙤𝙬 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩: 𝘼 𝙑𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙂𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙎𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 is now accepting participants!

We’re looking for 18 bonafide residents of Brgy. Taft to become the heroes of the Gardenators — leading the way in sustainable urban farming.

What once carried sweetness will now carry hope. 🍰➡️🌱

In a powerful move toward sustainability and community empowerment, 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐤𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐨, in heartfelt partnership with the 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲, 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐨, Kids Who Farm and with the full support of 𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐚 3𝐊 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭 3860 headed by the ever-supportive Assistant Governor Edna Dolar , proudly received 20 upcycled margarine drums (worth 5,000php) —soon to become green barrels of life!

These drums were generously donated by none other than FEL BAKESHOPE , a homegrown business built with heart and purpose, owned by the inspiring Mrs. Fel Madelo. Her selfless contribution will become the cornerstone of our vertical gardening initiative, bringing sustainable urban agriculture closer to families and communities across Surigao. 🌿

From the bottom of our hearts—𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮, 𝐌𝐚’𝐚𝐦 𝐅𝐞𝐥! You didn’t just give us drums; you gave us vessels for growth, nourishment, and a greener future. 💚

Together, we are turning this empty margarine drums into something worthwhile - into a Gardenator! A vertical garden initiative utilizing upcycled margarine drums!

𝐒𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞, 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 🌱

On 𝐌𝐚𝐲 29, 2025, 𝐒𝐮𝐠𝐚𝐤𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐨,, a youth-led movement born from the wreckage of Typhoon Odette, was given the invaluable opportunity to engage in a 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐮𝐛𝐲 𝐀𝐧𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐡𝐢𝐭

The conversation centered on our upcoming environmental initiative in partnership with the Rotaract Club of Central Surigao and Kids Who Farm— the 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁. This project aims to introduce sustainable vertical gardening systems to communities across Surigao del Norte, tackling both food insecurity and the need for innovative urban agriculture.

We are deeply grateful to the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist for believing in our vision and generously supporting Phase 1 of the project through the provision of seedlings. These will be the first sprouts of many — not just of vegetables and herbs, but of community-driven resilience and sustainable growth.

This collaboration is a strong testament to what can happen when young people and government work hand in hand to build a greener, more self-sufficient Surigao.

"𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐦."

In the quiet corners of Brgy. Mat-i, where access to healthcare is a distant hope for many, something magical happened.

On this day, smiles bloomed, lives were touched, and hope was planted—thanks to Sugakod Surigao, in heartfelt partnership with the Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact Clubs of Central Surigao. Together, we turned service into a healing force through our Pabasa, Sexual Reproductive Health Education, and General Check-up Medical Mission.

👩‍⚕️ Mothers learned the power of knowing their bodies.
👧 Children discovered the joy of stories and school supplies.
🧓 Grandparents finally saw a doctor after months of waiting.
🤝 And neighbors came together—not just for aid, but for dignity.

The outreach offered:
🎗️ Free medical check-ups, consultations, and medicines
🎗️ Pabasa sessions for kids with educational kits
🎗️ Family planning and reproductive health services
🎗️ A warm, shared boodle feast that brought hearts closer
🎗️ Relief packs and genuine conversations with every household

More than just services, this was a celebration of presence—of people showing up for each other with love, kindness, and the belief that no one should be left behind.

𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐖𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝, 𝐀 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐃𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐢𝐬 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐧

"Sige rakan mo’g pabasa, wa na moy lain project?", "Pabasa na pud?" , "Pabasa rakan pirmi?"

The words echo like distant songs in the spaces we serve.
And if you didn’t know better, you might even believe them.

But let me tell you a little secret: pabasa has always been more than just a project. It’s a promise. A ritual. A small kind of magic we choose to carry wherever we go.

There’s a story stitched into every pabasa we’ve ever done. Over the years, no matter the season, no matter the cause — we find ourselves circling back to it. Not because we ran out of ideas.
Not because it’s easy.

But because we know what happens when you read to a child. We have seen imaginations bloom in the spaces between words.
We have seen quiet, wide-eyed kids begin to dream impossible dreams. We have watched small hands clutch the air, trying to catch the stories we set free.

Reading plants something inside them — a spark, a light, a door they never knew existed. It builds their language, yes. Their comprehension, yes. But more than that, it builds their belief:
that they can be part of bigger worlds, that they can write their own stories someday.

And so pabasa became our quiet rebellion against despair.
Our gentle act of hope. Our magic spell whispered into the ears of the next generation.

If you trace the lines of any Sugakod member’s journey, you’ll find it there: a pabasa, woven into their hands, into their hearts.
It doesn’t matter what organization we wear on our sleeves now — Sugakod taught us this: Whenever a pabasa begins, somewhere, somehow, a Sugakod heart is leading it.

Because once you’ve seen how a simple story can plant courage in a child — Once you’ve felt a room change just because someone dared to read — You never really leave it behind. You carry it.
You become it.

And that’s why, even after all this time —
we still do Pabasa.

And we always will.
