Disaster preparedness was instilled among the students, faculty, and personnel of South Cotabato State College as officers from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Surallah conducted a Fire and Earthquake Drill in the institution. The activity was held in line with the observance of Fire Prevention Month, with the theme, “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa,” on March 17, 2026, at Dajay, Surallah, South Cotabato. Faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students actively participated in the drill, demonstrating cooperation and responsiveness during the simulation.

The drill was led by SFO1 Rizza D Enjambre, FO1 Jason Rex M Sinco, and FO1 Joemie Rey G Lomarda. They evaluated the performance of the participants and provided constructive feedback on areas that need improvement to ensure the safety of all concerned individuals. The BFP officers emphasized that every minute counts, as lives may be lost even with just a second of delayed response.

The South Cotabato State College Community Fire Auxiliary Group (CFAG) is headed by Chief CFAG Edward Lovell B. Brillantes, PhD; Assistant Chief CFAG Ronnie T. Galera, MEd; Communication Officer Walden C. Aseral, MEd; Evacuation Officer Gerry J. Madriaga, PhD; Search and Rescue Officer Ivan S. Minayo; Medical/First Aid Officer Catherine A. As the New Year approaches, let’s make sure our celebrations are remembered for the joy they bring, not the accidents they cause. The South Cotabato State College Red Cross Youth Council reminds everyone to prioritize safety while welcoming 2026! 🎆

Here is your quick guide to a hazard-free celebration:

🧨 Firecracker Safety 101

•Keep Your Distance: Always maintain a safe gap from any lit firecrackers.

•Supervise: Keep children away from explosives and never let them handle firecrackers alone.

•Stay Alert: Never handle fireworks if you've been drinking alcohol.

•Pet Safety: Fireworks can be terrifying for animals; keep your pets safely indoors.

🩹 Basic First Aid Tips

•For Minor Burns: Cool the area with clean running water for 20 minutes. Do NOT apply toothpaste, butter, or oils.

•For Cuts/Bleeding: Apply direct pressure with a clean cloth and elevate the injured area.

•When to Seek Help: If a burn is deep, if eyes/fingers are injured, or if the person feels faint, seek medical attention immediately.
