In college, we are also learning about gender and Society. While answering an activity about understanding the dimensions of gender, it felt heavier and heavier as I was writing an answer that I thought would give me a safe score. Halfway through the essay, after writing the things I learned from the lesson, God touched my heart. I had to end this with Him being glorified; I had to write about His love.
This may contradict what the lesson taught, but with all honesty, this is what I realized. Indeed, we are not defined by the standards, cultures, and opinions of this world—or even by our feelings, because the heart is deceitful above all things. And so, I turn to the truth.
Rather than chasing what I feel is right or the things that I think I want, I choose to understand the truth, and in that, I found my identity in Christ and in His great love. Rather than chasing continuous change or establishing my own identity, God tells us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We are made with great love, meaning you don't have to try to be everything or anything. The real us is, and always will be, the original creation. We are His children: dearly loved, highly favored, and anointed.
If you feel like you are not enough or not loved because of the way you are now, or if you feel like you need to change who you are to be someone else just to find happiness and freedom, that is a trap. True freedom in ourselves does not have to cost you anything, because you have already been redeemed by a price, and that is the cross.
That is how much you are loved: He who had no sin came to the world, died for you on the cross, rose again on the third day, and now reigns forever. The most surprising thing of all? He wants us. He wants to love you, and He wants your heart!
Maybe the love and acceptance you have been looking for all along is the one God is offering. Maybe the reason why nothing could ever fill the gap in your heart is because only the great love of God can.
