In line with the upcoming WeREAD Outreach Program with the theme, "WeREAD: Reaching Community to Empower School Children Through Literature," the organization will be having a Book Donation Drive starting this August 14 until September 16. Support us in our advocacy to empower young minds and encourage them in believing that reading is a good habit. All reading materials donated will be given to target public elementary school in Sorsogon, along with other school supplies.

The WeAct Organization is currently running a donation drive in lieu of the upcoming outreach program activity with the theme "WeREAD: Reaching Community to Empower School Children Through Literature.” The initiative aims to provide assistance to select primary student – beneficiaries in Sorsogon City.

All monetary donation will be used to buy reading materials and school supplies for the target primary school in Sorsogon City.

Hola, Advocates and Volunteers!

Here's a glimpse of the recently conducted face-to-face meeting spearheaded by WeAct Officials. Primarily highlighted in the meeting is the upcoming Outreach Program of the Organization that targets public school community. Specific target beneficiaries and ex*****on of the project were likewise discussed. The aforementioned initiative is in connection with the celebration of Reading Month this November.

Two months ago when The WeAct Organization was formed with an objective of providing community-based projects to address environmental and education-related issues. Since then, it is firm in its aspiration through the spirit of initiatives and volunteerism. In just a few months since its establishment, the organization has successfully completed two big projects—a donation drive for the victims of Mt. Bulusan eruption last June and Mangrove Tree Planting held in Sitio Tinago, Pamurayan last July 17. We remain steadfast in our vision to plan, design, and implement projects related to education and the environment that will reach a wider and deeper community.

In relation to the upcoming celebration of International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem this July 26, The WeAct Organization led the Mangrove Tree Planting Activity at Porakay Sitio Tinago, Barangay Pamurayan Sorsogon City, with a theme “MANGROVE PLANTING: RESTORING SHORELINES AND PROTECTING COASTAL COMMUNITIES.”

About 150 youth volunteers and advocates from different participating organizations showed support and joined the activity last Sunday. Although interrupted by abrupt rainfall, the activity was still a success! A total of 600 mangrove seedlings donated by PENRO-LGU and Provincial Board Member Hon. Benito Doma were planted. A timetable was also prepared, in coordination with the Barangay Chairman, for monitoring and ensuring that the seedlings live and grow properly.

By conducting this activity, the organization aims to help in restoring the shoreline and protecting the community. Mangroves not only serve as habitat and sanctuary of other marine species, but also as natural barriers against strong weather disturbances. A very timely action in reducing the impact of sea level rise on coastal community.

To all the youth volunteers and advocates who render service for the welfare of the community, your effort are highly appreciated. May our advocacy, together with our planted seedlings, spread and grow.

𝙈𝙍. 𝙍𝙀𝙔𝙉𝘼𝙇𝘿𝙊 𝙌. 𝙑𝙄𝘿𝘼 𝙅𝙍. CONDUCTS SYMPOSIUM WITH THE THEME, "MANGROVE PLANTING: RESTORING SHORELINES AND PROTECTING COASTAL COMMUNITIES HELD AT PORAKAY, SITIO TINAGO BARANGAY PAMURAYAN

The WeAct Organization would like to acknowledge Mr. Reynaldo Q. Vida Jr., our resource speaker from PENRO–LGU, for sharing his knowledge and expertise regarding mangrove planting. The symposium highlighted the importance of mangroves and mangrove ecosystem as natural coastal protection against flooding, storm surge, strong typhoon winds and the like. The do's and don'ts of mangrove tree planting were also discussed to guide volunteers prior setting off to the designated mangrove site.

In addition, all participating groups (Brgy. officials & Sangguniang Kabataan of Pamurayan, Teachers from different schools, BUGC-CSC, SorSU-FSC, Sorsogon City Scholars On The Move SCSO, PENRO-LGU) and youth volunteers were given certificate of appreciation to recognize their valuable support and cooperation in the said initiative.

On behalf of WeAct Organization Director of Community Engagement and Programs, Mr. John Henry Jarabo and Ms. Kian Razzell Embate and its functional body, we express our sincerest gratitude for the support and effort of Mr. Vida Jr. Without his presence and cooperation, our advocacy will never be a success.

Last July 17, 2022, the WeAct Youth Advocates and Volunteers, together with other volunteers from SK Pamurayan and different participating organizations joined the Clean–up Drive activity held at Sitio Tinago, Brgy. Pamurayan, Sorsogon City. All participants were grouped together and were given garbage bags to collect plastic wastes, starting from the Centro ng Barangay to Porakay: the planting site of mangrove seedlings.

The activity aims to promote an environment that caters cleanliness and pollution-free for a better community; a simple, yet crucial action to lessen global warming and climate change. Furthermore, it is to constantly remind us that we, ourselves, are the caretakers of our planet Earth.

To all the youth volunteers and advocates who participated in this initiative, The WeAct Organization extends its gratitude and appreciation for your volunteerism. With high hopes, may this inspire everyone to be liable towards our environment.

𝟲𝟬𝟬 Mangrove seedlings were planted at Sitio Tinago, Brgy. Pamurayan, Sorsogon City. Mangroves are known to be beneficial to the coastal communities as they protect them from natural disasters and develop the biodiversity and mangrove ecosystem. For the awareness of everybody, the seedlings will be monitored for several weeks in order to ensure its growth and protection.

The WeAct would like to warmly appreciate and thank the Barangay Officials of Pamurayan, especially the Barangay Chairman, Hon. Arles Janaban for untiring support; Sangguniang Kabataan of Pamurayan and the residents and youth volunteers; Teachers from different schools; Bicol University-Gubat Campus, College Student Council (CSC); Sorsogon State University- Federation of Student Council (FSC); Sorsogon City Scholars Organization (SCSO). Also, the ever supportive Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO-LGU) and Provincial Board Member, Hon. Benito L. Doma for providing mangrove seedlings. And to other donors, your kindness fell to where it is due.

The Directors of Community Engagement and Programs, John Henry and Kian Razzell would like to commend the presence of the WeAct youth volunteers and advocates who gave time and effort to make this happen.

📌WHAT TO BRING
• Water bottle/tumbler
• Extra shirts
• Rain boots (if available). Do not wear rubber shoes
• Parent's permit
• 4 pieces of sticks: 30 inches long

📌 GUIDELINES
• Be on time. The assembly will commence at 12:30-1:00 p.m.
• Wear appropriate clothing
• Find a partner or buddy and always check on each other. Don't wander off on your own.
• Always observe minimum health protocols: wear facemasks properly and bring your sanitizer and alcohol.
• Inform your parents regarding the activity.
• If you are not feeling well, it is advisable to stay at home and rest. This is not the last activity, there are lots to come.
• Inform the group head/facilitators of any emergency.
