SorSu, together with the Sorsogon Kasanggayahan Lion Club International held a two-day event named “Colors of our School” where mental health was emphasized, and emotions were all that surrounds, as part of SorSU’s participation in the National Su***de Prevention Month.
The Mental Health Symposium, entitled “Color Your Emotions: Painting Hope, Promoting Mental Health, and Preventing Su***de” aimed to raise awareness on mental health, emotions, guidance, support, and su***de prevention on students, including the SorSU-LHS’ SSLG Officers.
Notable speakers, Lucylle Bianca Cawaling, BFA, Mr. Sharbyn Z. Sayat, Dr. Mimilanie P. Oliver-Orbon, Mary Ann J. Jintalan RGC, Dr. Marvin Manocob, Ms. Mary Jane L. Lopez, Dr. Maria Crisanta Mella all talked about the importance of support, understanding emotions, and above all, mental health awareness.
There were exchanges of ideas—from emotions to how art mirrors what people feel, the importance of mental health awareness was emphasized.
Cliché the saying might go, but mental health is indeed, no joke. As students, there are struggles that’s hard not to miss, but as the saying goes, there is always a light in the dark—that amidst all burdens life can throw, there is hope. Hope through art, hope through support, hope through cope.
