Kalakbay, ever asked yourself: ๐๐ก๐๐ญ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ?
Lent is simply the soulโs "spring cleaning"โa 40-day season of preparation leading up to the joy of Easter.
Historically, the practice was formalized at the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, mirroring the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert. While it began as a strict period of instruction for those preparing to be baptized, it has evolved into a universal time for all Christians to "reset" their spiritual lives through discipline and reflection.

To observe Lent meaningfully, the Church encourages three specific practices:
1. ๐๐ซ๐๐ฒ๐๐ซ: Increase your "talk time" with God. This could mean attending daily Mass at St. Padre Pio Parish, praying the Rosary, or spending ten minutes in silence each morning.
2. ๐
๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ : Beyond the required fasting on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, "fast" from a habit that holds you backโlike complaining, procrastination, or excessive spending.
3. ๐๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ฌ๐ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐ : This is about "love in action." Whether itโs donating to a local charity in Nagtipunan or simply being more generous with your time for a neighbor, itโs about shifting the focus from yourself to others.

Lent isn't just for the older generation; itโs a powerful time for young people to build character and resilience. Here are a few "youth-sized" challenges:
Digital Detox: Try a "Social Media Fast" for one day a week, or delete an app that drains your time until Easter. Use that extra hour for something productive or prayerful.
The "Anti-Gossip" Rule: Commit to saying something kind about someone whenever you feel the urge to join in on "tea" or rumors.
Active Service: Offer to help with the music ministry, cleaning the church, or assisting the elderly in your community during parish events.
Eco-Lent: Give up single-use plastics or commit to walking instead of taking a tricycle for short distances as a way to care for God's creation.
And many more.

Ultimately, Lent teaches us that we are stronger than our impulses. By intentionally saying "no" to small things, we strengthen our spirit to say "yes" to the big thingsโlike love, forgiveness, and integrity. It reminds us that while we are "dust," we are dust that is deeply loved and destined for a resurrection.
