When we say Aklat Para sa Lahat, we mean it.
Yesterday, January 29, NBDB Executive Director Charisse Aquino-Tugade met with Chief Administrative Officer Marie Grace Gomez, Administrative Officer Nikkie Boie Pino, and The Book Nook Project National Program Coordinator Carlo Ebeo to discuss something crucial: how to deepen employee engagement with the communities our Book Nooks serve.
Since 2021, The Book Nook Project has established over 130 reading spaces containing Philippine-published books—spaces that reach far-flung regions and even overseas, with Book Nooks now open in South Korea and the United States. For many partner communities, these reading spaces provide the first real opportunity to access books in local languages, books that reflect young readers' stories and worldviews, books that say: this narrative is yours, too.
This year, as we continue expanding Book Nooks nationwide, we're also working with our Human Resources team to create pathways for more NBDB staff to engage directly with partner communities. We want our team to see and experience firsthand how these reading spaces are sustained, how they function, and what they mean to the people who use them. Because understanding happens through presence, not distance.
Stay tuned for updates on what's ahead for The Book Nook Project.
Our Book Nook applications remain open until March 2, 2026. If you know a community that would benefit from a reading space filled with Filipino literature, visit https://bit.ly/BN26Application and help us connect more young readers with stories that belong to them.
